The Tobacco Control team is looking for two Project Coordinators to join the team to support key pieces of work over the next 18 months. About the team Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in Australia and there are vast differences in smoking rates among different groups in our community. The Tobacco Control Unit works to reduce disparities in smoking prevalence between disadvantaged populations and the general population; reduce exposure to second-hand smoke; and control the supply of tobacco products, other nicotine delivery devices and any products that influence smoking. About the role Both roles are 18-month maximum term contracts on a full-time basis however will a part time 4 day working arrangement will be considered for the right candidate. The roles have the flexibility to work from home and at our Woolloomooloo office or based at another CCNSW regional office. Key responsibilities include: Develop and maintain an up-to-date and expert knowledge of tobacco control issues. Scope, develop and implement research, policy and/or communication projects to strengthen the evidence-base for tobacco control programs and to support tobacco control advocacy campaigns. Research and assist in providing advice/briefings - both written and verbal - to Cancer Council management and other key stakeholders on the meaning and implications of legislation, regulations and litigation, and proposed and introduced legislative and regulatory developments in the area of tobacco control. Contribute to drafting reports and publishable journal articles relating to tobacco control programs and policy research. Contribute to drafting persuasive submissions and position statements about a range of tobacco-related legal, regulatory and policy issues for government, law enforcement agencies and regulators and for use by other key stakeholders. Coordinate cross-organisational project teams to ensure actions are planned and executed in a timely manner. Liaise with key stakeholders, including other Cancer Councils, government agencies, researchers, public health organisations, community services and legal practitioners, to encourage partnerships and/or support for Cancer Council NSW's tobacco control strategies. Provide technical and general information - both written and verbal - to health professionals, public health and community service organisations, and the community through reviews, briefings, seminar and conference presentations, other addresses, published journal articles, website information and social marketing strategies. In conjunction with Cancer Council NSW's Policy and Advocacy Unit, support the development, implementation and evaluation of tobacco control advocacy campaigns by reviewing and summarising existing legal and scientific evidence, generating new evidence, contributing to campaign activities and conducting evaluations of state and local tobacco-related legal, regulatory and policy interventions. In conjunction with the Evaluation Unit, assist the development of evaluation plans to assess the impact and effectiveness of Cancer Council NSW's tobacco control initiatives. Manage and support volunteers and student interns to increase the Tobacco Control Unit's capacity. About You Tertiary qualifications in public health, legal or policy discipline or relevant experience. Understanding of tobacco control issues and health promotion principles. Effective project management skills. Experience in research and/or program development, including specification of objectives, and delivery or implementation strategies including evaluation of processes, impacts and outcomes of public health interventions or policies. Critical appraisal skills, including the ability to interpret and translate evidence and data sets into program and policy advice. Quantitative and qualitative research skills, including report writing and statistical analysis. Ability to communicate complex scientific and/or legal issues in simple form to technical and non-technical audiences, and to deliver effective verbal presentations.
