About the role
The Blasting Engineer provides engineering support in the management, storage, handling, and use of explosives on site, through control and auditing of regulatory compliance with explosives‑related requirements in accordance with company policies.
What you will be doing
- Verify the blast design for each shot to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, that no danger arises when the blast is initiated.
- Ensure that explosives are stored, handled, and used in a manner that does not pose any risk to the health and safety of people on or off site, and immediately escalates to project managers anything that could negatively affect this.
- Determine the hazard zone in consultation with the Project Manager and police authorities.
- Prepare an appropriate written blast specification for each blast and get it approved by the Project Manager.
- Ensure that blasting rules related to the storage, handling, and use of explosives are followed.
- Confirm that the equipment and accessories used for blasting are suitable and safe, and that site conditions are in accordance with the blast specifications before work with explosives begins.
- Remove unsafe equipment and accessories from use immediately.
- Ensure only authorized persons carry out work with explosives and that they have written authorization by the Ministry of the Interior.
- Verify the electrical integrity of the firing system or circuit where applicable to minimize the risk of misfire.
- Conduct a second check of all surface/subsurface connections to confirm they are still connected before being covered.
- Prevent unauthorized persons from entering the hazard zone.
- Check the status of all guards before the blast.
- Initiate all blasts from a safe location.
- Inspect the face and certify that no misfires have occurred after the waiting period.
- Provide adequate ventilation on site during the charging process.
- Ensure sufficient ventilation is available to remove harmful gases after blasting.
- Have the Safety Officer conduct periodic gas monitoring after blasting and record gas levels.
- Monitor and audit compliance with explosives regulations in accordance with company policy.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
Experience
Minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience in the mining industry or similar roles.
Language
Intermediate to advanced English proficiency (B2 level or higher).
Availability
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
Flexibility to adapt to different shift schedules based on operational needs.
