We’re looking for an experienced Medical Billing Specialist who knows the personal-injury world. You’ll handle the front end of the revenue cycle across our chiropractic, orthopedic, diagnostic, physical therapy, and other service lines, with a payer mix built almost entirely around PIP, Letters of Protection (LOPs), and Workers’ Comp. Your job is to make sure every accident case is opened correctly, every claim goes out clean, and nothing falls through the cracks on the front end. If you know the 14-day rule in your sleep, can read a declarations page in under a minute, and have opinions about which PIP carriers pay the cleanest — we want to talk to you.

What You’ll Do

- Open new accident cases — verify the date of loss, confirm the 14-day rule has been met for PIP eligibility, and capture all required accident and claim details
- Verify PIP coverage: pull declarations pages, confirm PIP/MedPay limits and deductibles, check for EMC (Emergency Medical Condition) determination, and document remaining benefits
- Obtain Workers’ Comp authorizations from adjusters or nurse case managers; track authorized visits/procedures and expiration dates
- Review and log Letters of Protection — confirm attorney firm, signed LOP on file, case details, and keep the LOP ledger current
- Enter charges accurately across multiple specialties — chiropractic, orthopedic E/M and procedures, diagnostic imaging (MRI, X-ray, EMG/NCV), physical therapy, and injections/pain management
- Submit clean CMS-1500 claims to PIP carriers and Workers’ Comp payers within required timelines
- Track LOP accounts — hold billing as appropriate, maintain itemized ledgers, and make sure records are ready for attorney requests
- Post PIP and WC payments, EORs, and explanation of benefits; reconcile to daily deposits and flag reductions for the collections team




- Apply the PIP 80% / Medicare Part B fee schedule logic correctly and catch underpayments at posting
- Partner with providers on documentation — flag missing signatures, unsigned plans of care, modifier issues, and medical-necessity gaps before claims go out
- Maintain the CPT/ICD-10 code tables, fee schedules, and specialty-specific modifiers across service lines
- Maintain full HIPAA compliance and safeguard protected health information

Qualifications

Required

- 3+ years of medical billing experience in a Florida personal-injury / multi-specialty practice
- Strong working knowledge of Florida PIP billing — 14-day rule, 80% rule, EMC determination, declarations pages, and CMS-1500 submission
- Hands‑on experience with Letters of Protection — intake, tracking, attorney coordination, and LOP ledgers
- Workers’ Comp billing experience — authorizations, adjuster/nurse case manager communication, and Florida DWC fee schedule
- Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding across multiple specialties (chiropractic, orthopedic E/M and procedures, diagnostic imaging, PT, injections) and proper modifier use
- Prior billing experience with orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery (including spine procedures) — surgical CPT coding, pre‑authorizations, and professional/facility billing
- Experience reading EORs/EOBs and identifying reductions, bundling, and underpayments
- Comfortable with CMS-1500 forms, clearinghouses, and payer portals

Preferred

- Prior experience with diagnostic imaging billing (MRI, X-ray, EMG/NCV) and pain management procedure billing
- Familiarity with practice management systems commonly used in PI practices (e.g., eClinicalWorks, Kareo, DrChrono, ChiroTouch, or similar)
