We're looking for a seasoned Medical Collections Specialist who is well versed in PIP, LOP, and Workers' Comp collections.
You'll be part of the team responsible for the back end of our revenue cycle across multi-specialty medical practice including but not limited to chiropractic, orthopedic, diagnostic, physical therapy, and pain management service lines.
You'll push PIP carriers past reductions and denials, keep law firms honest on LOP cases, and stay on top of WC adjusters until claims are paid.
The right person is tenacious, organized, and unbothered by long follow-up cycles.
LOP case can sit for two years before it settles, and you have a system to make sure nothing gets lost in the meantime.
What You'll Do
PIP Collections
Work aging PIP A/R — follow up with carriers on unpaid, underpaid, and reduced claims
Identify and challenge improper PIP reductions (80% rule, fee schedule errors, bundling, duplicate denials)
Prepare and send PIP demand letters in accordance with Florida Statute *******; track the 30-day response window and elevate to the clinic's PIP attorney when appropriate
Respond to requests for records, affidavits, and Examinations Under Oath (EUO) in coordination with counsel
Track the statute of limitations on PIP claims and flag cases approaching deadline
LOP Collections
Maintain the LOP ledger — every open case, law firm, case manager, date of loss, and outstanding balance
Contact law firms on a regular cadence for case status updates — litigation stage, mediation dates, settlement status
Send itemized bills, medical records,

and narrative reports to attorneys as requested
Negotiate LOP reductions at settlement within the clinic's approved guidelines; document every agreement in writing
Confirm settlement disbursement and follow up on trust-account payment; elevate delinquent firms
Identify stale LOP cases and recommend next steps (attorney change, closure, write-off)
Workers' Comp Collections
Follow up with WC adjusters and nurse case managers on unpaid claims and denied authorizations
Challenge WC reductions against the Florida DWC fee schedule
Work denials tied to authorization, medical necessity, and causation; file reconsiderations and petitions as neededCoordinate with the clinic's WC attorney on disputed claims and petitions for benefits
General
Track and report collection metrics — days in A/R by payer type, recovery rate on PIP demands, LOP average age at settlement, WC denial rate
Recommend write-offs, closures, or referral to outside counsel when internal efforts are exhausted
Maintain full HIPAA compliance and follow FDCPA guidelines on any patient-side collection contact
Qualifications
Required

3+ years of medical collections experience in a Florida personal-injury / multi-specialty practice (5+ years strongly preferred)
Deep working knowledge of Florida PIP statute ********), including the demand process, 80% rule, EMC, EUO, and timely-filing/SOL rules
Hands-on LOP experience — attorney coordination, ledger management, settlement follow-up, and reduction negotiation
Workers' Comp collections experience — DWC fee schedule, authorization disputes, adjuster negotiation, and petition process
Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding across multiple specialties so you can spot coding-based denials and reductions
Prior collections experience on orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery cases (including spine procedures) — high-dollar LOP tracking, surgical claim recovery, and facility/professional claim follow-up
Confident, professional phone presence with carriers, adjusters, and law firms
Excellent written communication — your demand letters, appeal letters, and attorney correspondence need to be clear and persuasive
Organized and systematic — able to manage hundreds of open cases without anything falling through the cracks
Preferred
Established relationships with South Florida PI attorneys and PIP litigation firms
Prior experience with diagnostic imaging (MRI, X-ray, EMG/NCV) and pain management procedure collections
Familiarity with PI-focused practice management systems and LOP tracking tools
What We Offer
Competitive compensation
A steady, team-oriented environment with established PI workflows
