The role
This is a full-time, fully remote Senior Collections Lawyer role with VALD, responsible for managing complex debt recovery and enforcement matters across a integral commercial debtor portfolio.
You will take ownership of a high-volume portfolio of recovery files, managing matters end-to-end from initial demand through to litigation, enforcement, settlement, and resolution. The role requires strong commercial judgment, autonomy, and the ability to deliver outcomes in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Working across multiple jurisdictions, you will liaise closely with internal stakeholders and external legal counsel worldwide while ensuring compliance with all applicable legal and professional obligations.
This role is suited to an experienced, commercially focused Debt Recovery & Collections Lawyer who thrives in a high-performance environment and can confidently manage sensitive recovery matters with minimal supervision.
What you will do
- Manage the full debt recovery lifecycle across a global debtor portfolio
- Draft and issue letters of demand and formal legal notices
- Conduct proactive and persistent follow-up via calls and written communication
- Initiate and manage recovery proceedings and legal actions across jurisdictions
- Coordinate with external legal counsel across global jurisdictions
- Negotiate and structure commercial payment arrangements
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation of all recovery activity
- Ensure compliance with local and international legal frameworks
Is this you?
- You are bilingual, with English as your second language, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Minimum 3+ years’ post-admission experience in debt recovery, litigation, and/or commercial disputes
- Proven experience managing matters end-to-end from instruction through to enforcement
- Strong drafting capability across letters of demand, pleadings, affidavits, and settlement agreements
- Excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills
- Strong commercial mindset with a focus on efficient, practical recovery outcomes
- Ability to manage high-volume caseloads while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organisational and time management skills Confident communicator across clients, debtors, external counsel, and internal teams
- Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of outcomes
- Demonstrated professional judgment, initiative, and ethical awareness
