Job Summary

The Mobility Tech reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Mobility Tech performs multi-skilled activities to support patient mobility, including, but not limited to, ambulation, transfers to/from chair, assisting patients in practicing exercises or functional activities, and total lifts to chair using lift equipment to achieve desired outcomes.

Qualifications and Training

- High school diploma or GED required with a minimum of one year of patient care work experience in a health care facility
- Certified Nursing Assistant
- High school diploma or GED required and required enrollment in a healthcare related program within two years of hire.
- High school diploma or GED required and a current MUHA Care Team Member.
- Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant course at an accredited institution or equivalent training
- EMT or Paramedic certification
- Nursing student enrolled in an accredited institution with the completion of nursing fundamentals course
- Bachelor’s degree
- Current nursing students or recent graduates may be required to provide transcripts.

Applicant must have basic computer skills, the ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures and the ability to make accurate physical observation of patients. Position may require working irregular hours under stressful conditions, rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends.

Within two months of date of hire, employees must successfully pass the online course modules, phlebotomy training and skills validation for basic and advanced skills.



Passing requires achieving an 80% passing rate on each test in two attempts or will result in separation from employment. Trainees are expected to have reliable attendance, are responsible for maintaining their BLS and any other annual competencies.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

Current Basic Life Support certification is required. Must maintain current BLS, either an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers certification or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Physical and Mental Requirements

- Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, outdoors in temperature extremes, from elevated areas, in confined/cramped spaces, from kneeling positions, bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, squatting, pinching operations, gross motor activities with fingers and hands, firm grasping, fine manipulation, reach overhead, repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, using both legs, lower extremities for balance and coordination, reach in all directions.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted; ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs.



from/to floor 36 inches unassisted; ability to lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs.; ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force.
- Maintain 20/40 vision corrected; good peripheral and hearing acuity; ability to deal with stressful situations; work rotating shifts and overtime; work in a latex safe environment; maintain tactile sensory functions; good olfactory function (selected positions); respirator use qualification (selected positions).

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements: Education: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Credentials: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
