Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Social Studies Teacher develops students' knowledge and understanding of history, geography, economics, political systems, and world cultures. The teacher promotes critical thinking, responsible citizenship, and an understanding of the social, cultural, political, and economic forces that shape societies and their interdependence.

The Social Studies Teacher fosters respect for diverse cultures, languages, racial and ethnic groups, religions, and political perspectives while helping students connect historical events and contemporary issues.

Essential Functions

- Develop and implement Social Studies curriculum aligned with district goals, state standards, and educational objectives.
- Create lesson plans and instructional materials that promote inquiry, analysis, problem solving, and student engagement.
- Provide instruction in history, geography, economics, political science, government, civics, and the humanities.
- Encourage understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity, human rights, civic responsibility, and democratic values.
- Help students analyze historical events and connect past developments to current local, national, and integral issues.
- Promote critical thinking and informed decision making through research, discussion, writing, presentations, and collaborative learning activities.
- Develop students’ media literacy skills by encouraging evaluation and comparison of multiple sources of information.




- Use a variety of instructional strategies and differentiated practices to meet the needs of all learners, including students with special needs.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instruction based on data and student performance.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, assessments, and other required documentation in accordance with district procedures and state regulations.
- Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment that supports effective learning and appropriate student behavior.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, students, and staff regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Collaborate with colleagues, grade‑level teams, and administrators to support instructional goals and school initiatives.
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, professional development activities, and other district responsibilities.
- Select, maintain, and inventory instructional materials, textbooks, technology, and classroom supplies.
- Continue professional growth through workshops, conferences, research, and ongoing learning opportunities.

Additional Duties

- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other administrators designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment





- Use standard office and classroom technology, including computers, printers, copiers, projectors, telephones, and instructional software.

Travel Requirements

- Travel between school district buildings and attend professional meetings, workshops, and training sessions as required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

- Knowledge of current instructional practices, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction strategies.
- Knowledge of history, geography, economics, sociology, political science, civics, government, anthropology, and the humanities.
- Knowledge of historical and contemporary global issues and their impact on society.
- Knowledge of assessment practices, data analysis, and instructional planning.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws, regulations, and standards.
- Ability to integrate technology into instruction and classroom management.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
- Ability to reflect on instructional practices and pursue continuous professional growth.

Physical and Mental Demands / Work Environment

- Works in a standard classroom and school environment.
- Must be able to perform the physical and mental demands associated with teaching and classroom management.

Salary Range

$52,700 to $112,200, commensurate with experience, certifications, and advanced degrees, in accordance with the negotiated agreement.
