Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Bogota, Colombia.
The Assistant Human Rights Officer Business & Human Rights (B&HR;) reports to the Coordinator for Collective Rights, Rural Development, and to the Human Rights Officer in the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR), under the general supervision of the Representative.ResponsibilitiesResearches and collects information pertaining to human rights matters, including their gender dimensions from a variety of data sources to keep abreast of issues/events and provide up-to-date information.Supports the Office in Colombia in its business & human rights agenda under the Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America – RBCLAC project.Drafts a variety of reports and correspondence relating to human rights matters in Colombia, with a focus on business and human rights issues.Participates in the documentation and monitoring human rights violations, including the preparation of case summaries with an intersectional and gender perspective.Maintains awareness of current human rights issues, to include relevant political and legal developments in Colombia.Assists with human rights training programmes, including on business and human rights, with a focus on due diligence, responsible conduct, and access to remedy,
from an intersectional and gender perspective.Supports OHCHR Colombia in liaising and advocating with relevant national and local authorities, with special focus on business and human rights.Provides technical assistance to the government, National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI) and state institutions to develop diagnosis, policies, directives or manuals to promote the implementation of the guiding principles on business and human rights.Supports NGOs, Civil Society organizations, UN agencies and other partners to promote the implementation of the guiding principles on business and human rights.Prepares preliminary versions of speeches, presentations and communications issued by the Representative.Performs other related duties as required.CompetenciesEducationAdvanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field is required.
