Job Purpose
A Control Wireman performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs on circuit breakers, transformers, power cables, and other elements at a substation.
Responsibilities
Termination of cables in relay control panels as well as outdoor equipment (breakers, VT's, etc.).
All necessary wiring supplies will be available, minus standard hand tools (screwdrivers, wire cutters, needle nose pliers, etc.).
Supplied tools include crimpers, wire strippers, and cable cutters.
Instruction will be given on site on proper wiring technique desired by the customer,
as well as training on proper shield grounding of the control cable.
An understanding of wiring diagrams is necessary; this will be one of the primary means to determine cable location and termination sequence.
Assistance in correcting factory wiring may be required, as well as re‐wiring existing circuits during a cutover at brown field substations.
Qualifications
Required
Able to pass a pre‐employment drug screen.
Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and lift 70 lbs.
Must have a valid driver's license and currently maintain a good driving record.
Preferred
NETA certified – plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or Military experience preferred.

Power Factor
Ductor
Megger
CT ration & saturation
Hi-Pot
Knowledge of the following equipment:
Circuit Breakers
Low Voltage, Medium Voltage, High Voltage (LV/MV/HV)
Transformers
Switchgear
Motors
