Engineering Technician, Global Field Operations (AMER/LATAM) Job ID: ******** | Amazon Data Srvcs Colombia SAS Global Field Operations is seeking a passionate, results‐oriented engineer to drive operational excellence in its colocation and field‐based data center operations.
This position serves as a technical resource to support Amazon Web Services (AWS) within its geographically distributed Global field operations.
The role drives overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service level expectations of data center operations.
The General Field Engineer will be responsible for working with business development on site qualification and selection, managing multiple relationships with Colocation providers, and overseeing the operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment in multiple data centers.
This equipment supports mission‐critical servers and networking equipment with high uptime expectations.
The engineer will identify and drive projects to maintain high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum.
When appropriate, the engineer will drive innovation cooperatively with the colocation facility to reduce operational costs.
A strong sense of ownership and bias for action is necessary for this position.
Key job responsibilities include: Supervise, advise, and collaborate with Colocation operators performing servicing or preventive maintenance.
Assist in performing root cause analysis for operational issues.
Perform periodic on‐site reviews and audits of operations, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Supervise the design and implementation of retrofits of existing facilities.
Qualify new sites for new deployments.
Drive operational excellence in all data center sites.
Perform first‐level troubleshooting for facility and rack‐level events.
Approve all CMs (Change Management Tasks) to enable changes and maintenance at sites.
Attend weekly calls with TPMs and CAD designers, designing and retrofitting new and existing cages within our AMER edge space.
Support other projects, safety, and process improvements.
Basic qualifications: Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations, including feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.
Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.
Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
+3 years of experience working with data center infrastructure design, operations, or delivery.
Preferred qualifications: Experience in operations and on‐call support for Data Center facilities or Mission Critical Plants/Production facilities.
Project Management experience.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PPT, and other project management software.
Travel requirements include up to 60% travel around the LATAM/AMER area.
