The Shop Technician is responsible for supporting the fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and preparation of fire and life safety system components and equipment. This role ensures materials and equipment are job-ready, meet quality standards, and comply with applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with the assembly and preparation of fire and life safety system components and materials.
- Support fire extinguisher rebuilding and general fabrication activities.
- Inspect, clean, and prepare equipment and materials for field installation and service.
- Receive and organize materials and ensure proper storage within the shop.
- Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas in safe and working condition.
- Perform basic maintenance and repairs on tools and equipment as needed.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials and preparing job shipments.
- Follow work orders, instructions, and basic drawings to complete assigned tasks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Education/Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ years of mechanical, warehouse, or construction experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical tasks throughout the day.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
- Preferred: Experience in fire protection or life safety systems and familiarity with NFP
