Job Title: Mid-Level Application Support Engineer

Location: Phillipines - Peru - Bogota (On site)

Reports To: Application Support Lead

Employment Type: Full-Time (Rotational Shifts)

About Staff Boom At Staff Boom, we are undergoing an exciting technological transformation. We are migrating our core legacy systems into a modern, cloud-native Azure microservices ecosystem. We are building a specialized Application Support Squad to act as the critical bridge between IT Operations and Software Engineering. If you are passionate about cloud infrastructure, deep-dive troubleshooting, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, this is the place for you.

The Role As a Mid-Level Application Support Engineer, you are the "Right Hand" on the support desk and a key contributor to our engineering pipeline. You will handle complex technical escalations, analyze application logs, and collaborate directly with our Development, DevOps, and Infrastructure teams to solve systemic issues.

Beyond day-to-day operations, you will actively participate in cross-functional engineering projects—including cloud-native migrations, containerization, and automation initiatives—helping us move towards a modern, highly reliable platform.

A Day in the Life In this role, you won't just be answering emails. A typical day might involve using KQL to trace a 500-error through Azure Monitor, collaborating with a Laravel developer to identify a database bottleneck, deploying a hotfix via GitLab CI, and leading a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to prevent the issue from happening again.

Key Responsibilities

- Troubleshoot & Assist: Provide technical assistance to users on complex software-related issues, troubleshooting application exceptions, and logic errors.
- Engineering Projects & Modernization: Partner with DevOps, Infrastructure, and Development teams on high-impact engineering projects, such as serverless automation (e.g., General Scheduler), virtual-to-container migrations (Azure Container Apps), and standardizing CI/CD infrastructure templates.
- Deploy, Patch & Test: Test and deploy software patches, updates, and new versions using our CI/CD pipelines (GitLab), strictly adhering to IT Change Enablement practices.
- Monitor & Optimize: Assist in application performance monitoring (APM) using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics to proactively identify and mitigate degradation.
- Collaborate: Work closely with hardware, network, and development teams to ensure compatibility between software and infrastructure. Coordinate directly with third-party vendors for licensing compliance and advanced support.
- Document & Mentor: Document software configurations, author Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports,

and create/maintain FAQ and Knowledgebase articles for the Support Services team.

Mandatory Skills (Must-Haves )

- Shift Flexibility: Willingness and capability to work a 24/7/365 rotational shift schedule (covering Day, Mid, and Graveyard shifts) as outlined in the company's staffing rotation guidelines.
- Cloud Operations: 2–3 years of hands-on experience managing and navigating Microsoft Azure (App Services, Virtual Machines, Azure SQL).
- Log Analytics & Observability: Strong proficiency in querying logs. Experience with Kusto Query Language (KQL) or similar tools (Splunk/ELK) to trace distributed system errors.
- Database & SQL: Solid ability to write intermediate SQL queries (JOINs, SQL statements) to verify data integrity and troubleshoot issues.
- Code Literacy: Ability to read and navigate backend code (specifically PHP/Laravel or Python) to identify if an error is a code bug vs. an infrastructure timeout. (You won't write the app, but you must be able to read the stack traces).
- Bilingual Communication: B2/C1 English proficiency. Must be able to confidently document bugs for US-based development teams.

Desired Skills & Certifications (Nice-to-Haves)

- Experience monitoring and executing deployments using GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
- Ability to write basic automation scripts (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
- Basic understanding of containerization (Docker).
- Policy-Preferred Certifications: ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft 365 or Azure Administrator, or Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM).
