Senior Paralegal – Removal Defense
Remote | Adaptable Schedule | Full-Time | Spanish and English Required
Since 2010, we’ve been freeing people the U.S. government is trying to deport. Want to help us?
Raleigh Immigration Law Firm is a bilingual Deportation Defense Law Firm. We use creative strategies and fight to do everything legally possible to keep families together in the United States. We provide an extreme level of customer service and transparency, so our clients understand what’s happening every step of the way.
If you believe that hard work and a kind soul matter more than place of birth, and want to help people facing one of the most challenging crises of their lives, keep reading.
You Are the Last Line of Defense Before the Attorney. Act Like It.
You will be the quality anchor for an active removal defense practice. Every motion, every packet, every filing that leaves this firm passes through your standard.
Clients are in deportation proceedings. Some are detained. The work has to be right. Speed without accuracy is not an option here. Neither is accuracy without speed. You hold both under pressure, without lowering the bar.
We do everything legally possible to stop deportations and keep families in the U.S. The quality of that defense starts with you.
Tired of outperforming everyone around you and getting paid the same as them? Not here. This is a Results-Only Work Environment: what you earn is tied to what you deliver, not your tenure or your job title, and there’s no cap on it. We hold people to a high bar, and we pay like it.
The Role
You will independently manage complex removal defense cases, review the work of junior Paralegals and Legal Assistants, and serve as the escalation point for substantive legal questions before they reach the Attorney.
There is:
- No setting legal strategy — that’s the Attorney’s responsibility
- No lowering the standard when the team is under pressure
- No sending work to the Attorney that isn’t ready
You work under the direct supervision of the Attorney. You bridge legal strategy and execution. What reaches the Attorney is complete, accurate, and ready.
What You’ll Do
- Independently manage complex removal defense cases through hearing preparation
- Draft, review, and finalize motions, briefs, declarations, and supporting filings
- Conduct legal research and case analysis
- Review the work of junior Paralegals and Legal Assistants for accuracy, completeness,
and alignment with legal strategy
- Catch errors and gaps before cases reach the Attorney
- Serve as the escalation point for complex legal questions from the team
- Train and mentor junior staff on legal standards, document preparation, and firm SOPs
- Collaborate with the Case Manager to align legal readiness with operational timelines
- Maintain complete CMS documentation and accurate daily time tracking
What We’re Looking For
- 4+ years of immigration paralegal experience, at least 1 of which is in removal defense
- Demonstrated experience with bond hearings, 42B, Asylum, Motions to Reopen, and Motions to Substitute
- Experience reviewing or mentoring junior Paralegals preferred
- Spanish and English fluency required
- High attention to detail — you catch errors others miss
Tools
CampLegal — EOIR Portal — ECAS — Google Workspace — Advanced legal research tools
How You’ll Be Measured
- SOP compliance: 95–100%
- Deadline compliance: 100%, zero missed filing deadlines
- Legal quality: ≥ 90% of work submitted to the Attorney requires minimal revision
- Filing errors: 0, always
- Time tracking: 99% daily, accurate entries
- Consistent mentoring and development of junior staff
This Role Is For Someone Who
- Takes personal ownership of the quality of every document that leaves the firm
- Slows a case down when something is wrong and escalates immediately
- Mentors junior staff without lowering the standard
- Communicates directly with Attorneys and the Case Manager when risks arise
- Has done this work at a high level and wants to own the quality bar for an entire team
This Role Is NOT For Someone Who
Do not apply if:
- You do not have removal defense experience
- You treat quality review as a formality rather than a responsibility
- You are not comfortable giving direct feedback to junior staff
- You trade accuracy for speed under pressure
- You are not available for occasional weekend or extended hours during deadline periods
This is a Results-Only Work Environment. Legal quality, deadline compliance,
and SOP adherence are tracked and reviewed consistently.
