About the Role

We are seeking a qualified bilingual educator with specialist training in visual impairment, deaf education, or deafblind education to deliver online English lessons to blind, deaf, and deafblind children in Costa Rica. The role is fully remote and part-time, and is open to candidates based in Colombia and other Central or South American countries.

This role requires specialized disability pedagogy. Candidates with formal certification in visual impairment, deaf education, or deafblindness are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position is delivered online only. Candidates must be available to work within a schedule aligned to Costa Rican time zones (CST, UTC-6).

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver online English lessons to blind, deaf, and deafblind students via one-on-one and small group sessions
- Adapt lesson materials and communication methods to each student's accessibility needs
- Maintain lesson records and progress notes, and communicate regularly with the support team

Minimum Requirements





- Fluent in both Spanish and English; C1/C2 English proficiency is required (an English proficiency assessment will be conducted where the qualifying degree is not in English)
- Based in Colombia or elsewhere in Central or South America (required for scheduling alignment with student time zones)
- Bachelor's Degree or higher, preferably in Education, Special Education, English, or Translation
- Accredited TEFL, TESOL, or CELTA certification (120 hours or above)
- Formal qualification in Visual Impairment, Deaf Education, Deafblindness, or Special Needs Education
- Minimum of 3 years of English teaching experience, gained within the last 5 years; online teaching experience is an advantage
- Availability of at least 10 hours per week, including a minimum of 5 hours during peak teaching times
- Clear criminal record

Additional Skills That Strengthen an Application

- Sign language proficiency — Colombian Sign Language (LSC), Costa Rican Sign Language (LESCO), or another national sign language
- Certified Braille proficiency (Unified English Braille or an equivalent national standard)
- Experience with deafblind communication methods such as Tactile ASL, hand-over-hand guidance, or object cues
- Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems
- Post-graduate specialization in Inclusive or Special Education

Technical Requirements

- PC: Intel Core i5 @ 2.40GHz or better, 8GB RAM minimum
- Stable internet connection of 20 Mbps (upload and download) via LAN cable
- Noise-cancelling headset and HD webcam (720p or above)
- Quiet, well-lit dedicated workspace
- Backup power supply recommended (UPS with 4–5 hours battery life)
