Legal Consultant (Remote - Colombia)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Colombia-based Legal Consultant to provide practical legal guidance for corporate operations, commercial agreements, compliance, risk management, and cross-border business matters. The role will support leadership and internal departments by reviewing legal documents, identifying legal and regulatory risks, and coordinating with external counsel when specialized representation is required. The adecuado candidate is a Colombian-qualified lawyer with strong business judgment, excellent English communication, and experience supporting international or U.S.-based organizations.

Key Responsibilities

- Advise management on Colombian corporate, commercial, contractual, labor, regulatory, and general compliance matters relevant to company operations.
- Draft, review, revise, and negotiate service agreements, contractor agreements, confidentiality agreements, vendor agreements, partnership documents, policies, and other commercial documents.
- Identify legal risks, explain practical business implications, and recommend clear mitigation actions to leadership and department managers.
- Support corporate governance, entity maintenance, registrations, resolutions, internal approvals, and document-retention requirements in Colombia.
- Provide guidance on Colombian labor and independent-contractor considerations, including engagement terms, disciplinary documentation, termination risks, and misclassification concerns.
- Advise on privacy, confidentiality, records management, and personal-data protection obligations, including matters involving Colombia Law 1581 of 2012 and related regulations.
- Conduct legal research and prepare concise legal opinions, risk summaries, decision memoranda, and compliance updates in English and Spanish.
- Support internal audits and policy reviews involving HR, finance, administration, procurement, data privacy, and operational compliance.
- Coordinate with Colombian and international outside counsel, notaries, government authorities, and other specialists when formal representation or specialized expertise is required.
- Monitor material legal and regulatory developments and translate them into actionable updates, controls, or policy changes.
- Maintain strict confidentiality, organized legal files, matter trackers, contract registers, deadlines, and status reports.
- Provide basic legal-compliance training and practical guidance to employees, managers, and contractors.

Required Qualifications

- Professional degree in Law (Abogado/a) from a recognized institution, with an active Colombian professional card (Tarjeta Profesional de Abogado) and no current disciplinary restrictions.

- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification legal experience, preferably in corporate, commercial, contracts, labor, compliance, or in-house legal work.
- Working knowledge of Colombian corporate and commercial law, contract law, labor and contractor-related requirements, and personal-data protection.
- Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating business contracts and preparing practical legal advice for non-legal stakeholders.
- Professional English proficiency, preferably B2-C1 or higher, with the ability to draft and discuss legal and business matters in English and Spanish.
- Excellent legal research, issue-spotting, analytical, writing, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate risks promptly in a remote environment.
- High ethical standards, sound judgment, discretion, and proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, electronic signatures, shared-document platforms, and contract or matter-tracking systems.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience supporting U.S.-based companies, international clients, cross-border transactions, or remote contractor workforces.
- Postgraduate specialization in Commercial Law, Corporate Law, Labor Law, Contract Law, Compliance, Data Privacy, or a related field.
- Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, education, non-profit, professional services, or multi-entity business operations.
- Familiarity with U.S. commercial contracts and the ability to coordinate efficiently with U.S. counsel while recognizing jurisdictional boundaries.
- Experience developing policies, compliance controls, legal trackers, contract templates, or legal-service KPIs.

Performance Expectations

- Legal reviews are completed accurately and within agreed service timelines.
- Risks are prioritized clearly as critical, high, medium, or low and include a recommended action and responsible owner.
- Contracts and legal records remain complete, current, searchable, and appropriately confidential.
- Legal advice is practical, concise, business-focused, and distinguishes confirmed law from matters requiring specialist counsel.
- Material deadlines, disputes, compliance gaps, and regulatory changes are escalated promptly.

Work Arrangement and Equipment

- Full-time remote contractor engagement based in Colombia, subject to the final written agreement and applicable law.
- Availability to collaborate during agreed U.S. Pacific Time working hours and attend video meetings as required.
- You must have your own equipment with Microsoft Office installed.
- Candidate must provide a professional, quiet work environment, reliable internet of at least 50 Mbps, webcam, microphone, noise-cancelling headset, and a secure Windows computer suitable for confidential legal work.
- All company information, legal documents, and personal data must be handled only through approved systems and in accordance with confidentiality and security requirements.

Application Requirements

- English-language CV detailing legal experience, industries supported, and experience with international or U.S.-based clients.
- Copy or verifiable details of the active Colombian Tarjeta Profesional de Abogado.
- Confirmation of English proficiency and remote-work availability.
- Completion of the company application form, screening questions, interviews, reference checks, and any role-relevant legal assessment.
