Case Manager – Deportation Defense

Remote | Adaptable Schedule | Full-Time | Spanish Required, English Preferred

Since 2010, we’ve been freeing people the U.S. government is trying to deport. Want to help us?

Raleigh Immigration Law Firm is a bilingual Deportation Defense Law Firm. We use creative strategies and fight to do everything legally possible to keep families together in the United States. We provide an extreme level of customer service and transparency, so our clients understand what’s happening every step of the way.

If you believe that hard work and a kind soul matter more than place of birth, and want to help people facing one of the most challenging crises of their lives, keep reading.

In This Role, Nothing Falls Through the Cracks. Because You Won’t Let It.

You are accountable for every deportation defense case: every deadline tracked, every next step assigned, every risk addressed before it becomes a crisis.

Our clients are in deportation proceedings. Some are detained. Court dates can determine the rest of our clients’ lives. If a case sits without a next step, that’s on you. If a deadline is missed, there is usually no recovery.

This is not a role where you report what happened. It’s a role where you make sure the right things happen.

If that level of ownership is what you’re looking for, keep reading.

We do everything legally possible to stop deportations and keep families in the U.S. You make sure the operation never becomes the reason a case fails.

Tired of outperforming everyone around you and getting paid the same as them? Not here. This is a Results-Only Work Environment: what you earn is tied to your performance, not your tenure or your job title, and there’s no cap on it. We hold people to a high bar, and we pay like it.

The Role

You will manage the case management system, own deadlines, supervise the Paralegals and Legal Assistants working each case, and hold contract Attorneys accountable to their turnaround commitments — keeping the whole operation lean and unblocked across all active cases.

There is:

- No legal work
- No client representation
- No waiting to be told something is wrong

You report to the Operations Manager and work directly with our Attorneys, Paralegals, and Legal Assistants. When the team has competing priorities, you determine what moves first. When someone is overloaded, you redistribute the work. You resolve issues directly whenever you can, and escalate only when something is truly outside your ability to fix.

What You’ll Do

- Hold Paralegals and Legal Assistants accountable for keeping the CMS accurate and current across every active case
- Monitor all court dates, filing deadlines, and internal milestones continuously
- Ensure every case has a documented next step, always
- Assign tasks to Paralegals and Legal Assistants with clear deadlines and priority order
- Serve as the central decision point when the team faces competing urgent deadlines
- Monitor team capacity, redistribute workload when needed, and conduct regular check-ins to catch bottlenecks early
- Supervise Paralegals, Legal Assistants,

and contract Attorneys as one team — set clear expectations and performance metrics for each role, and hold everyone to them
- Alert Attorneys to pipeline risks and cases requiring immediate legal attention
- Track contract Attorney response time against required turnaround windows, and act immediately — reassign or escalate — the moment an Attorney isn't responding on time
- Generate pipeline status reports
- Track staffing costs across every role you supervise (Attorneys, Paralegals, Legal Assistants) and flag ways to bring costs down without sacrificing case quality or client service
- Build and refine the systems — checklists, workflows, escalation triggers — that catch problems before they become missed deadlines
- Track your time accurately every day

What We’re Looking For

- 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role, ideally in a fast-paced, high-volume environment (legal, healthcare, operations, or similar)
- Experience managing more than one role or team at the same time — you know how to set priorities across different types of work, not just one lane
- Experience setting performance metrics or KPIs for a team, and holding people accountable to them
- Immigration law experience is a plus, not a requirement — if your operations or people-management background is strong, we want to hear from you
- Comfortable tracking a team's hours and costs and looking for ways to run leaner without cutting corners on quality
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-volume, deadline-driven workflows
- Experience with case management systems
- Spanish fluency required; English proficiency preferred
- Proactive communicator who resolves problems directly and doesn’t wait to be told

How You’ll Be Measured

- Cases progressing on schedule: ≥ 90%
- Cases without a documented next step: 0, always
- Deadline failures: 0, always
- CMS accuracy: maintained at all times
- Contract Attorney response-time SLA: met, always
- Time tracking: 99% daily, accurate entries

This Role Is For Someone Who

- Sees workflow gaps before they become problems
- Makes prioritization decisions without waiting for permission
- Holds others accountable to deadlines directly and without hesitation
- Knows the status of every case they own, not approximately, exactly
- Wants clear metrics and measurable ownership in a mission-driven environment
- Has supervised more than one type of role before and isn't fazed by the coordination that takes

This Role Is NOT For Someone Who

Do not apply if:

- You need someone else to tell you what needs attention
- You are uncomfortable making prioritization calls or holding team members accountable
- You treat the CMS as a formality rather than the source of truth

- You prefer predictable, low-stakes work
- Occasional weekend or extended hours during deadline periods do not work for you

This is a Results-Only Work Environment. Pipeline health, deadline compliance, and CMS accuracy are tracked and reviewed consistently.

Application Requirements

Email [email protected] with the subject line “I read the whole thing.”

In the body of the email, include:

- A brief description of the highest-volume case or project load you have managed

If you cannot describe your process clearly, this role is not a fit.

Why Work Here

- Your work helps keep families together.
- Flexibility in a fully remote environment. You know better than we do where you’re most productive. As long as no one can hear you talk (for confidentiality), we trust you to manage your time and balance work with the rest of your life.
- Health insurance and gym membership after 3 months
- Paid holidays
- Space to create, improve, and take initiative. If you see a better way, we want to hear it. Good ideas don’t wait for permission here.
