Tenured Professorship – Canada Research Chair (Tier I) in Brain Circuits

Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.

Position Overview

We are inviting applications for a professorship with tenure at the Professor level, nominating the selected candidate for a Canada Research Chair (Tier I) in Brain Circuits. The successful appointment will develop a world‑class research program in foundational or translational neuroscience, focusing on the brain in health and disease. The role offers 75% protected research time and access to state‑of‑the‑art neurotechnology infrastructure at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and Cumming School of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program in brain circuits.
- Collaborate with basic scientists, clinician investigators and clinicians across the Cumming School of Medicine to advance brain research.
- Contribute to teaching, graduate student supervision and mentorship.
- Lead and expand multidisciplinary partnerships and participate in the nine Brain and Mental Health Teams of the HBI or the ACHRI Child Brain and Mental Health Program.
- Protect 75 % of working time for research and secure sustainable external funding.

Qualifications

- PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline; current Professor or eligible for promotion to Professor.




- Outstanding research record with publications in high‑impact journals and success in acquiring external research funding and awards.
- Demonstrated leadership in research program development and implementation.
- Progressive contributions to trainee supervision, mentorship and teaching.
- Proven ability to initiate collaborations and work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Evidence of a productive, externally funded research program and fit with at least one HBI Brain and Mental Health Team or the ACHRI Child Brain and Mental Health Program.
