WSP is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer - Hydro & Dams to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will support the planning, analysis, design, and assessment of geotechnical aspects related to hydroelectric, water resources, and dam infrastructure projects. This role requires strong technical capabilities, collaboration with international teams, and the ability to contribute to complex engineering projects from concept through detailed design and construction support.The ideal candidate will have between 3 and 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, with exposure to hydroelectric, dam, mining, or major infrastructure projects. Due to the general nature of the projects and stakeholders, advanced English and French language proficiency is required.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport geotechnical investigations, site characterizations, and interpretation of subsurface conditions.Perform geotechnical analyses related to foundations, slopes, embankments, retaining structures, tunnels, and underground works.Contribute to the design and rehabilitation of dams, water retaining structures, hydroelectric facilities, and related infrastructure.Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, specifications, and design documentation.Assist in the development of geotechnical models and numerical analyses using industry-standard software.Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, hydrotechnical, geological, and environmental specialists.Review geotechnical investigation data and laboratory test results.Participate in construction support activities, including review of contractor submittals and field observations.Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulations, and industry best practices.Support risk assessments and dam safety evaluations.Participate in project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and technical proposal preparation when required.Maintain effective communication with clients, project teams,
and stakeholders in English and French.Qualifications and ExperienceEducationBachelor's degree in civil engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field is preferred.Experience3 to 5 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering.Experience supporting hydroelectric, dam, water resources, mining, or major infrastructure projects.Experience in geotechnical investigations, engineering analysis, and technical reporting.Exposure to dam engineering projects and water-retaining structures is highly desirable.Technical SkillsKnowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering, and slope stability analysis.Experience with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, PLAXIS, Rocscience Suite, FLAC, or equivalent.Familiarity with international dam safety guidelines and geotechnical engineering standards.Ability to review and interpret geological and geotechnical data.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering documentation tools.Language RequirementsAdvanced English proficiency (written and verbal) - Mandatory.Advanced French proficiency (written and verbal) - Mandatory.Ability to communicate effectively in multicultural and international project environments.Core CompetenciesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.Attention to detail and commitment to technical excellence.Effective communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration skills.Initiative, adaptability, and willingness to learn.Commitment to health, safety, quality, and sustainability principles.Why Join WSP?At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on complex and innovative Hydro & Dams projects alongside leading technical experts.
