WSP is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Hydro & Dams to lead geotechnical activities for hydroelectric, dam, water resources, mining, and major infrastructure projects. The role involves technical leadership in investigations, analysis, design, dam safety assessments, rehabilitation projects, construction support, and client advisory services.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead geotechnical investigations, site characterization programs, and interpretation of subsurface conditions.
- Design and evaluate dams, embankments, foundations, retaining structures, tunnels, and hydraulic infrastructure.
- Perform and review geotechnical analyses including slope stability, seepage, settlement, deformation, and foundation assessments.
- Conduct dam safety evaluations, risk assessments, rehabilitation studies, and asset management programs.
- Develop geotechnical models and numerical analyses using industry-standard software.
- Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, specifications, and design documentation.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, hydrotechnical, geological, environmental, and construction specialists.
- Support construction through inspections, monitoring, contractor reviews, and field issue resolution.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, dam safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
- Support business development, proposals, client engagement, project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and stakeholders in English and French.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Water Resources Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng. or equivalent) preferred.

Experience





- More than 10 years of professional geotechnical engineering experience.
- Extensive experience in hydroelectric, dam, water resources, mining, or major infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience leading geotechnical investigations, engineering design, and technical reviews.
- Strong background in dam engineering, water-retaining structures, and dam safety programs.
- Experience through all project phases, from feasibility studies to construction and operation.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and client relationships.

Technical Skills

- Advanced knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering, seepage analysis, and slope stability.
- Experience with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, PLAXIS, Rocscience Suite, FLAC, RS2, Slide, Settle3, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of international dam safety regulations and geotechnical engineering standards.
- Experience with numerical modeling, geotechnical risk assessments, and review of complex engineering deliverables.
- Familiarity with construction practices, field investigations, and instrumentation monitoring.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools.
- Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills.

Language Requirements

- Advanced English proficiency (written and verbal) - Mandatory.
- Advanced French proficiency (written and verbal) - Mandatory.
- Ability to prepare technical reports, studies, proposals, presentations, and client communications in both languages.
