Meaning of the colours Workawayers needed Possibility that workawayers are needed No availability Details Description Welcome to our language institute, where our goal is to foster the curiosity and the speaking skills of the people of San Agustin. This project started in 2021, it focuses on the English language and culture sharing.
The core of the school is to make our students meet with people from all over the world to improve their English but also to broaden their perspectives, opportunities and mindset. More than 80 students learn English, French and Spanish.
We teach to different ages and levels : children, teenagers, and adults, from A1 to B2. Today, we are 3 teachers working together to help the students learn in the best way. We keep the groups small to keep a personalized type of teaching, and we often organize practice classes with foreigners, and activities outside the school.
We would love to host a volunteer to complete our Colombian team and bring its culture to the school and the students. You would need to be fluent in English, to help the teachers 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. If you speak French, you can also participate in our new French groups !
The classes take place in the afternoons and evenings, from 2 to 6 or 4 to 8 most of the time. If you want to be part of the pedagogic team, we will be happy to hear your ideas and co-construct the activites with you. In your free time, you will have a lot to discover in San Agustin and its surroundings.
We can take you to the best places around and share with you the history and culture of this special place. San Agustín is a privileged place, due to the dazzling nature of the Colombian Andes, its exuberant vegetation and its abrupt canyons carved out of volcanic rock.
Its Archaeological
Park, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, is its greatest tourist attraction. With its landscape, adventure, agrotourism and cultural activities, the town is growing and the tourism here is developing very fast. I can also take you to the coffee farm of my family on the weekends, in the mountains, and show you the real countryside life in a coffee region.
About me : I am Milton, 32 years old, I created this project and I teach English and Spanish. Besides managing the school, I also sometimes work as a tour guide and translator. I am from here and I love sharing my love for this magic region ! Types of help and learning opportunities Language practice Teaching Babysitting and creative play Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will have the opportunity to practice your Spanish daily, and maybe even have class with me A lot of human experiences with the students and also with all the people you will meet here during your stay
You will also improve your teaching and pedagogic skills of course
I will show you my favourite places here and you can take part in some of the tours I do when possible !
Discover my family's coffee farm and spend the weekend in the mountains
There is a lot to do around. No matter what is your passion, you will find someone here who share it with you.
Outdoors : horse riding, bicycle, hiking in the canyon, waterfalls and miradors, swimming, canyoning, kayaking, and a lot of other adventure sports Culture : famous and magical archeological sites, many coffee farms around to visit (the best in Colombia, even if the region is not called Eje Cafetera hahaha), salsa and bachata classes on fridays Projects involving children This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here. Help We would love to have another teacher in our team to learn from eachother and bring a diferent culture to the students.
You will need to have some experience in teaching, tutoring, or at least experience in group managing or working with children, and have good interpersonal skills to transmit what you know. We are looking for something fluent in English, if not native. You will need to feel enough confident in Spanish to participate in classes with students who have a very basic English level.
The classes take place in the afternoons and evenings, from 2 to 6 or 4 to 8 most of the time. Thus it will be 4 hours a day, during 5 days a week. The teachers have holiday according to the national and regional holiday, like the students.
We would like to welcome volunteers for long periods of time, like few months, so that the learning environement stay a stable for the children and teenagers, but we might consider aplications for 1 month or less, depending on your profile. If you have some schooling and strong experiences in education, pedagogy, or languages, it is a big plus and we will be happy to hear about your experiences. Being fluent in Spanish is a plus but it is not necessary, we will be here to help you with Spanish anytime you need.
We would also like to have someone able to co-teach French.
Languages Languages spoken English: Fluent Spanish: Fluent French: Beginner This host offers a language exchange I love sharing my culture and my language, so I will be pleased to teach you Spanish as a part of the volunteering. You will also practice a lot your Spanish during the lessons and in the town in general, as not a lot of people speak English here. I would also like to keep learning French through our French group, if you are a native.

Diaz. (Excellent) 30 Aug 2023 Left by Workawayer (Evan) for host Truly the best experience!! My time at the school has been nothing but an absolute pleasure. I was unsure going in as I had never taught English formally before, but Milton made sure I had all the resources and instruction necessary at my disposal so that I felt confident going in to each class.
A highlight of course are the students themselves. … read more I taught a big range of students, from 11 year olds to a group of older students with one being in his fifties! All were amazing, their eagerness to learn really makes it a fantastic experience as you truly feel like you're helping these people realise their dream of talking English. I even made quite good friends with the older groups and have met up with them outside of class, their enthusiasm never stops!
What has also surprised me a lot is that my spanish has improved at an even faster rate than usual whilst teaching, as I am learning to say things I might otherwise not come across outside of class. Milton himself is a fantastic host. I couldn't be happier with the accomodation he found for me.
He really is thoughtful and always checks up on me, making sure that I'm having a great time both in class and outside too! The tour he gave me of his family's finca was a true highlight of my stay in San Agustin as well, honestly something I'd be willing to pay for. Truly is the best parcero!
So please please please come and work at the school, they'll make you feel not only welcome but really sought after as they love having native and other fluent speakers to practice with! There is nothing quite like seeing their smiles of satisfaction when they get an answer right and can see themselves improving. Love this place, my only regret is that due to my limited time in Colombia I couldn't stay for longer!!!
