Role Description The Colombia Field Representative — Hemp Textile Program is a part-time, freelance role based in Medellín or Bogotá, Colombia. This is an operational and relational position — the representative does not design or manufacture products, but serves as Merkato's eyes on the ground for a hemp textile development program executed in partnership with a U.S.-based hemp textile company.




Core responsibilities include maintaining regular contact with spinning and weaving mills during fiber trial and sample development phases, attending mill visits and technical meetings, and documenting trial results — covering fiber behavior, processing challenges, yarn quality outcomes, and recommended adjustments. The representative translates mill-level technical findings into clear, actionable reporting for the project team and the U.S. partner.
The role also requires coordinating meetings and logistics between program stakeholders across Medellín and Bogotá, planning and executing inbound and outbound commercial missions, and progressively supporting market intelligence and commercial development activities — including identifying industry events, mapping opportunities in the Colombian textile value chain, and facilitating technical workshops to introduce hemp fiber to industry stakeholders.
