Overview

UNU‑WIDER invites proposals for research papers on income inequality for the World Income Inequality Database (WIID) project. The papers should address inequality trends, drivers, and impacts, and may contribute new methods or improve the database.

Scope and Topics
- Empirical and theoretical analyses of the drivers of economic inequality trends and patterns globally, and in specific regions or countries.
- Impact of economic inequality levels, trends, and patterns on socioeconomic outcomes such as wellbeing, labour markets, conflict, governance, welfare state, trade, etc.
- New methods to better understand the income distribution, its causes or implications at country or integral levels.
- Innovative proposals to improve the quality and quantity of information in the WIID, alone or with other data.

Proposal Requirements
- Written in English, around 10,000 words maximum (inclusive of text, tables, figures, boxes, footnotes, references, etc.).
- Include a brief overview of methodology, expected contributions and alignment with WIID data.




- One author from each successful proposal will attend an online project workshop in June , and may also present at the WIDER Development Conference on Inequality in October .
- Proposals may be submitted by individuals, groups, or non‑profit organizations.
- Applications from women and researchers in developing countries are particularly encouraged.

Submission and Timeline
- Submission deadline: 31 October , 23:59 UTC+2.
- Target date for informing applicants of decisions: 21 May .
- Target date for submission of first drafts of papers: 21 September .
- Target date for submission of final papers: October .

Other Information

Accepted papers will first be published in the WIDER Working Papers Series and then submitted to high-quality journals or books in economics, political science, development studies, or related fields. All proposals may be submitted electronically via the online application form on the provided page.
