Company Description Meridian Oceanic is a maritime technology startup based in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, focused on high-performance electric hydrofoil vessels. The company’s flagship project, Flysurf, is a 25-foot prototype designed for sports and leisure use in Caribbean waters. Flysurf features actively controlled foils that enable the vessel to “fly” above the water surface, reducing drag and improving efficiency. Its fully electric, advanced underwater propulsion system is engineered to deliver cruise speeds of 20–22 knots and a range of up to 60 nautical miles. Meridian Oceanic offers opportunities to work on cutting-edge marine propulsion solutions with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and performance.
Role Description The Electric Propulsion Engineer will work on the design, modeling, and optimization of the Flysurf’s underwater electric propulsion and related systems in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and analyzing propulsion concepts, performing system-level simulations,
selecting and integrating components (motors, drives, batteries, cooling systems), and contributing to control strategies for underwater propulsion units and hydrofoil operation. The engineer will also prepare technical documentation, support design reviews, and collaborate with naval architects, mechanical engineers, and control engineers to ensure performance, safety, and reliability targets are met. This is a contract role and is fully remote, requiring regular virtual meetings, clear communication, and proactive coordination with the broader engineering team.
Qualifications
Strong background in propulsion and propulsion systems, including electric or marine propulsion technologies.
Experience with systems engineering and analytical skills applied to complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects.
Relevant knowledge in aerospace engineering or similar fields involving hydrodynamics, aer
