Akamai WAF Security Contractor

About the Role

We're looking for hands-on Akamai WAF contractors to support our WebSec team during a transition period. This role focuses on day-to-day WAF operations, incident response, and Akamai edge security management across our ecommerce and API platforms.

Recent incidents including certificate lifecycle issues and edge behavior impacts on mobile apps have highlighted the need for stronger operational ownership, visibility, and consistency across our Akamai configurations and response processes. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Akamai security professional to make an immediate impact.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate and support Akamai WAF (App & API Protector / Kona Site Defender) in production environments
- Respond to and troubleshoot security incidents, including WAF events, DDoS attacks, bot traffic, API abuse, and outages
- Perform WAF rule tuning, policy updates, and exception handling
- Manage and support Akamai configurations,



including Property Manager, security policies, and edge behaviors
- Assist with TLS/certificate-related issues impacting edge delivery
- Support standard and emergency change management processes
- Develop and maintain runbooks, playbooks, and operational documentation
- Partner with internal teams, Akamai, and third-party vendors to resolve production issues

Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Akamai WAF products such as App & API Protector, Kona Site Defender, or similar
- Proven experience supporting production Akamai environments
- Strong understanding of HTTP/S, APIs, and web application behavior
- Solid grasp of WAF rule logic, tuning, and false-positive handling
- Experience with incident response and outage support
- Ability to troubleshoot edge-to-origin issues and API connectivity
