Description:
A Connecticut ophthalmology practice is seeking an experienced, highly educated, and detail-oriented Virtual Medical Scheduler to support patient scheduling, registration, insurance information, and front-office operations.
While this is primarily a scheduling position, the practice strongly prefers candidates with experience or a solid understanding of medical billing, coding, insurance, or benefits verification . The adecuado candidate understands how accurate patient demographics and insurance information directly affect claims processing and reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule, reschedule, and coordinate patient appointments
- Answer patient calls and provide professional scheduling assistance
- Accurately collect and enter patient demographic information
- Confirm names, dates of birth, addresses, telephone numbers, and other important patient information
- Collect and accurately document insurance information
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits when required
- Carefully review patient information to prevent registration and billing errors
- Identify potential insurance or demographic issues before they create downstream billing problems
- Coordinate with the scheduling and billing teams when additional information or corrections are required
- Maintain accurate patient and appointment information within AMD
- Communicate professionally with patients and onsite team members
- Maintain HIPAA-compliant handling of patient information
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or other advanced degree strongly preferred
- Strong academic background with demonstrated critical-thinking and analytical abilities
- Previous experience as a Medical Scheduler, Medical Receptionist, Patient Coordinator, or similar healthcare professional
- Medical billing, coding, insurance, or benefits verification experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of patient demographics, insurance information, and their impact on medical billing
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to learn AMD or similar medical software quickly
- Comfortable working and interacting with the practice team through video
- Professional appearance and professional remote workspace
- Reliable high-speed internet connection
- Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or other advanced academic qualification
- Previous medical billing or coding experience
- Insurance eligibility and benefits verification experience
- Experience using AMD medical software
- Ophthalmology or specialty medical practice experience
- Previous experience supporting a U.S. medical practice remotely
- Spanish-speaking ability
? Professional Video Presence: This is not a phone-only remote position . The selected candidate will work closely with the practice through video and should present themselves as an integrated member of the front-office team.
Candidates must be comfortable appearing professionally on camera, maintaining a professional remote workspace, and communicating effectively with both patients and onsite staff.

Candidates do not need to be dedicated medical billers, but they should have enough billing, coding, or insurance knowledge to understand how seemingly small errors in a patient's name, date of birth, address, or insurance information can create significant problems later in the revenue cycle.
