About CapRelease

CapRelease provides growth capital to UK eCommerce retailers, from £20k–£1m. We connect to live operational data across four signals: sales, accounting, banking, and inventory and fulfilment. Most funders read three of the four; we read all four. Inventory finance and revenue finance are combined into a single blended facility, with one fixed fee, sized on live data, and decisions in 24–72 hours.

Behind that sits a small, senior technology team. The platform runs on Azure: C# ASP.NET Core APIs, Python services, Azure SQL, customer-facing web front ends, and a growing set of third-party data integrations that feed underwriting.

Professional Summary / Role

This is the senior QA role in the business, and it's a strategy role as much as a hands-on one. You'll decide what quality means here, how it gets measured, and what has to be true before anything reaches production. You'll then do the testing yourself, across the front end, the APIs and the data underneath them.

You'll work remotely from Medellín as part of a Senior Technology Team, alongside our product and engineering teams. We're looking for someone who challenges requirements early, is comfortable saying a release isn't ready, and can explain why in terms the rest of the business understands. Working this way means you'll need to raise things in writing and in meetings without waiting to be asked.

What will you do

- Define and own the test strategy across the platform: what gets tested, at which layer, what's automated, what stays manual, and how release readiness is judged.
- Test both sides of the stack. Front-end web applications and the REST APIs behind them, covering functional, integration, contract and regression testing.
- Write your own SQL against SQL Server and Azure SQL to build test data, verify behaviour end to end,

and investigate defects at the data layer.
- Work with product on requirements and acceptance criteria, resolving ambiguity before development starts rather than after.
- Partner with developers through delivery: reviewing coverage, pairing on reproduction steps, and keeping the feedback loop short.
- Build and maintain automated test suites, and run them as a gate in Azure DevOps pipelines.
- Test our third-party data integrations properly, including failure modes, retries, rate limits and the edge cases that only appear in live data.
- Report on quality to the senior technology team: defect trends, coverage, risk and release readiness, in a form people can act on.
- Cover the non-functional side: performance, resilience, accessibility, and the security basics expected of an FCA-registered firm.
- Set the QA standard for the team as it grows, and mentor others as testing responsibility spreads.

Essential experience

- You've owned quality for a product or platform rather than worked to a plan someone else wrote. That means setting the test strategy, deciding what's automated and what isn't, and being the person who says whether a release is ready. Depth of ownership matters more to us than years served, though in practice this level of experience usually takes around 5 years in QA or test engineering to build.
- Demonstrable experience testing web front ends and back-end APIs, with hands-on use of tools such as Playwright, Cypress or Selenium, and Postman or an equivalent API client.
- Strong SQL Server skills.

You write your own queries, understand joins, indexes and stored procedures, and can trace a defect through the data yourself.
- Sound judgement on risk. You can prioritise coverage where the business exposure sits, and explain the trade-off you've made to people who aren't testers.
- Experience working alongside product managers and developers in an agile delivery team, as a peer rather than a downstream check.
- Excellent written and spoken English. You'll write test strategies, defect reports and acceptance criteria that are read across the business, and discuss them daily with technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Proven experience working remotely in a distributed team across time zones, with the written communication habits that requires.
- Comfortable with the pace and breadth of a small team: shifting priorities, direct ownership, limited hand-holding.
- A reliable home working setup, including a stable internet connection suitable for daily video calls.

Desirable Skills

- Financial services or fintech experience, particularly in a regulated environment.
- Azure DevOps: test plans, pipelines, CI/CD integration.
- Working familiarity with C# and .NET, or Python.
- API contract testing and performance testing (k6, JMeter or similar).
- Testing data-heavy integrations or ETL, where correctness of the data matters as much as the response code.
- Accessibility testing against WCAG, or basic security testing practice.
- ISTQB certification or equivalent beneficial.
- Hands on delivery experience of Automation testing is highly beneficial.

Soft Skills

- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ownership and accountability.
- Strong communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset.
- Continuous learning attitude.
