Role Description The Health and Safety Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Bogotá, D.C., responsible for promoting a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace. This role develops, implements, and maintains health and safety policies and procedures aligned with local regulations and company standards. Key daily tasks include conducting risk assessments, workplace inspections, and incident investigations, as well as maintaining safety records and reporting findings to management.
The specialist will plan and deliver safety training sessions, support occupational health initiatives, and collaborate with leaders to address hazards and implement corrective actions. This role also partners with cross-functional teams to continuously improve Environment Health and Safety (EHS) programs and support employee engagement in safety practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Health and Safety Program Management:
- Assist in developing and implementing health and safety procedures and policies.
- Support the creation and maintenance of safety documentation, including risk assessments, incident reports, and safety audits.
- Monitor the workplace to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Coordinate and participate in safety inspections, audits, and emergency drills.
Incident and Accident Reporting
- Assist in the investigation and reporting of workplace incidents, accidents, or near-misses.
- Ensure that all incidents are documented, and corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
Orientation/induction and Awareness
- Coordinate and deliver new hire orientations, emergency response, ergonomics, and specific workplace hazards.
- Promote health and safety awareness programs and campaigns across all departments.
Compliance and Regulations
- Ensure the company complies with Colombian labor laws and safety regulations (e.g., ARL, Ministry of Labor).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal requirements and best practices in health and safety within the BPO industry.
Health and Well-being Initiatives:
- Support employee wellness programs to improve overall health and reduce workplace stress, ensuring a healthy work environment.
- Partner with the HR team to address health concerns or accommodations for employees with disabilities or chronic conditions.
- Maintain contact with the medical center with which the company has an agreement to conduct medical examinations for new employees.
- Periodically plan and administer medical exams to internal employees.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and confidential health and safety records, including audits, reports, and investigations.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly health and safety reports for management review.
Emergency Preparedness
- Ensure emergency evacuation plans and fire safety equipment are in place and functional.
- Act as a point of contact for emergency response situations, coordinating with local authorities if necessary.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field. A technical degree may be considered depending on experience.
- Experience:
- At least 1-3 years of experience in health and safety roles, preferably in the BPO or contact center industry.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of Colombian health and safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Certifications
- Certifications in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., SST certification in Colombia) are highly desirable.
- First aid or CPR certification is a plus.
