The Role and Why It's Important
At Hy-Vee, our bakery department helps customers celebrate life's biggest moments, and our Bakery Cake Designers are at the heart of making those moments special. In this role, you'll use your creativity and decorating skills to bring customer visions to life, from birthday cakes and everyday treats to wedding cakes delivered and set up on site.
You'll also serve as a lead for part-time employees and collaborate closely with the bakery team to keep production running smoothly.

What You'll Do
No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:
- Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer with a smile, taking orders at the bakery counter, and assisting them with their needs throughout the store
- Check orders for the day, set up a timeline and production schedule, and check cake orders daily for details including size, deco pack, icing needs, and dates
- Decorate bakery items in a timely manner, keeping current on new designs and trends
- Develop daily bakery orders for bakers including cakes and sizes needed
- Track daily retail production and identify tasks to be completed with co-workers
- Check product dates, pull cas
