Senior Software Engineer — Python & AI Applications

About the Role

Tesoro AI is recruiting a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to join a U.S. healthcare technology company building AI-enabled applications and operational workflows.

We are looking for an application-oriented engineer who can contribute directly to an existing production codebase, build backend services and integrations, solve complex production problems, and take ownership of software quality after deployment.

The current codebase is primarily Python and JavaScript/TypeScript. Strong production Python experience is especially relevant, but we are equally interested in engineers who demonstrate strong systems thinking, application ownership, and the ability to become productive quickly in a modern codebase.

Direct experience with Voice AI, healthcare, or Salesforce is valuable, but it is not required. Strong candidates may come from other AI-enabled, real-time, distributed, enterprise, or regulated environments.

What You Will Do

- Build, improve, and maintain production applications, backend services, APIs, and integrations.
- Develop primarily with Python and JavaScript/TypeScript within an existing production codebase.
- Contribute to AI-enabled functionality used in real operational workflows.
- Improve application performance, reliability, scalability, and response times.
- Investigate and resolve production issues across application, data, integration, and infrastructure boundaries.
- Develop automated tests and strengthen regression prevention, monitoring, observability, and release verification.
- Identify potential failure modes and implement safeguards, fallbacks, or human-review mechanisms for AI-enabled features.
- Work with product, operations, and technical stakeholders to clarify problems and translate them into practical solutions.




- Contribute to real-time and low-latency workflows, including voice-related applications.
- Own technical work from problem clarification through implementation, deployment, and production validation.
- Use modern AI-assisted development tools responsibly while verifying the quality and reliability of generated code.

What We Are Looking For

- Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining production applications or backend systems.
- Meaningful production experience with Python, including services, APIs, integrations, application logic, debugging, or data-processing workflows.
- Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript in modern application environments.
- Demonstrated ownership of software that has been deployed and used in production.
- Experience working inside existing codebases, not only creating isolated prototypes or proofs of concept.
- Strong understanding of automated testing, debugging, monitoring, regression prevention, and production reliability.
- Ability to reason about application architecture, service boundaries, performance bottlenecks, concurrency, scalability, and failure modes.
- Experience with APIs, integrations, cloud-based applications, or distributed systems.
- Ability to investigate a problem before proposing a solution and verify whether the outcome worked after release.
- Professional English communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions, incidents, and tradeoffs.
- Interest in remaining hands-on as an individual contributor.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience building,



deploying, or maintaining AI-enabled applications used by real users.
- Experience taking an AI feature from prototype to production.
- Familiarity with LLM applications, agents, RAG, evaluation frameworks, guardrails, fallbacks, or human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Experience evaluating incorrect, inconsistent, unsafe, or low-confidence AI outputs.
- Experience with real-time, streaming, low-latency, conversational AI, telephony, ASR, or TTS systems.
- Familiarity with technologies such as Twilio, Vapi, Whisper, Amazon Polly, Rasa, Amazon Lex, or similar tools.
- Experience in healthcare, fintech, banking, insurance, government, or another regulated environment.
- Experience handling sensitive data, privacy requirements, controlled deployments, or audit-sensitive systems.
- Experience with AWS and modern CI/CD practices.
- Familiarity with Salesforce, Salesforce Health Cloud, enterprise platforms, or complex enterprise integrations.

What Strong Performance Looks Like A strong engineer in this role does more than complete assigned tickets. They can understand the underlying problem, identify what they personally need to own, make sound technical decisions, ship reliable software, and verify that the result works for users in production.

They also understand that AI-enabled applications require more than a successful demo: they require evaluation, monitoring, testing, safeguards, and clear responses when the system behaves unexpectedly.
