Job Summary
The Business Intelligence Data Developer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the curated data layers and semantic models that power enterprise reporting and analytics across the Inspire Brands portfolio. This role owns the reporting foundation, including curated views in Snowflake and Power BI semantic models, ensuring data solutions are accurate, scalable, secure, and optimized for business consumption.
The position works across the analytics lifecycle, partnering with business stakeholders, reporting engineers, and data platform teams to gather requirements, develop data models, implement governance and security standards, and support enterprise reporting needs. The developer leverages SQL, DAX, Power BI, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, and modern data modeling practices to deliver high-quality analytics solutions.
Day to day, this role develops and optimizes semantic models, implements data quality controls, row-level security, incremental refresh strategies, and performance improvements while supporting deployment and CI/CD processes. Success is measured by the reliability, usability, and business value of the data assets delivered, and the trust placed in those solutions by analysts, reporting engineers, and stakeholders across the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and maintain curated views and reporting models in Snowflake that serve as the foundation for downstream Power BI work.
- Match the grain of every view and model to how the business analyzes performance across brand, region, period, and franchisee.
- Build Power BI semantic models on top of those views, including relationships, measures, calculation groups, aggregations, and metadata.
- Implement and maintain row level security in Power BI semantic models, covering brand, region, and franchisee scope.
- Write efficient SQL and DAX. Profile queries, tune joins, tune measure context transitions, and use the right Snowflake and Power BI features for each workload.
- Implement data quality checks across views and models, including row counts, freshness, referential integrity, business rule validation, and DAX measure regression checks.
- Coordinate with the reporting engineers as the primary consumers of these semantic models. Communication breaking changes early and version models when needed.
- Coordinate with upstream data platform teams on schema changes, late arriving data, and deployment windows.
- Document every view and every semantic model, including grain, source, refresh cadence, key measures, RLS scope, known caveats, and owner.
- Contribute to the team’s modeling standards and code review process across Snowflake and Power BI.
- Pick up work across all brands and domains. The same developer may build a sales rollup one week and a labor semantic model the next.
- Stay current on Snowflake and Power BI capabilities, including features such as dynamic tables, materialized views, calculation groups, and aggregations, and bring useful options into the team’s work where they fit.
- Support the development of end-to-end data solutions, including data ingestion, transformation, modeling, and semantic layer design using modern data warehousing principles.
- Implement and optimize incremental refresh, partitioning, and other performance tuning strategies to support large-scale analytical workloads.
- Participate in the deployment and promotion of data and semantic model changes across development, testing, and production environments, ensuring proper validation and stakeholder sign-off.
- Contribute to CI/CD processes and deployment automation for analytics solutions, supporting reliable and repeatable releases across data and BI platforms.
- Analyze existing data models, semantic layers, and data pipelines to identify opportunities for performance improvements, scalability enhancements, and operational efficiencies.
- Identify and recommend process improvements, best practices, and emerging technologies that enhance the effectiveness, reliability, and governance of enterprise analytics solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum: 4 year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related field.
- Preferred: Microsoft or Snowflake certification, such as the Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate, or SnowPro Core credential.
- Minimum:
3+ years of experience building semantic models or curated reporting layers in Power BI and a cloud data warehouse, with strong SQL skills.
- Preferred: 5+ years of BI or analytics engineering experience, with hands on Snowflake and Power BI work in a multi brand, retail, restaurant, or franchise setting.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of modern data warehousing architectures and data lifecycle concepts, including data integration, transformation, and semantic layer design.
- Experience working with cloud-based analytics and data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Exposure to automation frameworks, command-line tools, or CI/CD practices that support efficient deployment and management of data and business intelligence solutions
- Strong SQL skills, including window functions, CTEs, query optimization, and the ability to read execution plans.
- Hands on Snowflake experience, including warehouses, roles and access controls, query profiling, materialized views, dynamic tables, and streams.
- Familiarity with Power Query (M) and data transformation best practices for developing and maintaining enterprise reporting solutions
- Solid working knowledge of DAX, including iterators, time intelligence, variables, context transition, and calculation groups.
- Experience building Power BI semantic models end to end, including relationships, measures, aggregations, RLS, and metadata.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, including star schemas, slowly changing dimensions, fact and dimension relationships, and the importance of grain.
- Experience implementing data quality checks, freshness monitoring, and DAX measure regression checks across views and semantic models.
- Ability to translate business questions into the right grain and the right measures, in coordination with reporting engineers and business stakeholders.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain modeling decisions to engineers, analysts, and business partners.
- Comfortable working on multiple models at once, prioritizing brands and domains, and meeting committed delivery dates.
- Familiarity with version control (Git), code review, and deployment pipelines for both Snowflake objects and Power BI semantic models.
- • Familiarity with advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, large language models (LLMs), and emerging data technologies is considered a plus
