Legal Assistant – Removal Defense

Vasquez Law Firm is looking for a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our Removal Defense team.

As a Legal Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting attorneys and paralegals as they represent clients navigating complex immigration matters and removal proceedings. You'll gain hands-on experience in immigration law while working alongside a collaborative legal team dedicated to helping clients and their families.

What You'll Do

As part of our Removal Defense team, you will:

- Support attorneys and paralegals with removal defense and immigration cases.
- Collect, review, organize, and maintain client documents and supporting evidence.
- Assist with preparing immigration forms, applications, exhibits, and other case documents.
- Help prepare cases for Immigration Court hearings and filings.
- Assist with filings and case submissions to USCIS and Immigration Court/EOIR under the direction of attorneys and paralegals.
- Follow up with clients to obtain missing documents, signatures, information, and case requirements.
- Communicate with clients regarding documentation, appointments, case updates, and next steps.
- Assist with client intake and interviews by gathering and accurately documenting relevant information.
- Track case deadlines, hearing dates, notices, and follow-up items to help keep cases moving forward.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date electronic case files.
- Review notices and correspondence and promptly communicate important information to the appropriate team member.
- Assist with legal research and case preparation as assigned.




- Provide administrative and case support to the Removal Defense team.

What We're Looking For

Required:

- 1+ year of experience as a Legal Assistant, Immigration Assistant, or similar role.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Strong interest in U.S. immigration law, particularly Removal Defense.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional and empathetic communication with clients.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with attorneys and paralegals.
- Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new technology and case management systems.

Preferred:

- Experience working in an immigration law firm.
- Experience supporting removal defense or Immigration Court cases.
- Familiarity with USCIS and EOIR processes.
- Familiarity with immigration forms such as I-130, I-485, I-765, I-131, I-589, and N-400.
- Experience working with legal case management or document management platforms.
