Senior Systems Engineer (Go / Distributed Systems)

Employment Type: Full-time, Independent Contractor (Initial 6-month contract with extension options)

Work Model: Remote (Exclusively sourcing near-shore candidates from Latin America: Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, or equivalent time zones)

Work Hours: US Business Hours alignment (Minimum 4–5 hours daily synchronous overlap required)

Role Overview

We are seeking a senior Senior Systems Engineer specializing in production Go development to build high-performance, distributed backend systems for our US-based InsurTech client—a SaaS platform supporting 800+ independent insurance agencies and 3.5+ million policyholders.

Working directly alongside systems engineering leadership, you will architect, build, and optimize core platform services that enable rapid product innovation. Operating within a modern Go, PostgreSQL, Redis, and cloud-native microservices ecosystem, you will own the end-to-end design of concurrent services, build deep observability, eliminate performance bottlenecks, and ensure system reliability at enterprise scale.

Key Responsibilities

1. High-Performance Go Systems Engineering

Go Microservices Execution: Design, build, and deploy robust, highly concurrent microservices in Go, optimizing for low latency, throughput, and system maintainability.

Architecture & Scalability: Partner with systems engineering leadership to refine architectural roadmaps, implement distributed systems patterns, and manage system constraints across high-volume data and transaction pipelines.

Performance Optimization:



Diagnose performance bottlenecks, optimize SQL queries and indexing, and build resilient asynchronous or event-driven processing pipelines.

2. Observability, Infrastructure & Code Governance

Production Observability: Embed telemetry, logging, and metrics monitoring across Go services to ensure complete system transparency and production reliability.

Containerized Deployment: Deploy and manage services using Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS cloud infrastructure.

Technical Mentorship: Enforce high code-quality standards, conduct constructive code reviews, and mentor mid-level/junior engineers on Go best practices and distributed system patterns.

3. Cross-Functional Engineering Collaboration

Product & Engineering Alignment: Collaborate closely with distributed product managers, designers, and platform engineers to deliver modern capabilities.

Async & Real-Time Communication: Maintain active, transparent communication around technical progress, trade-offs, and architectural blockers in fluent English with US leadership.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Professional Experience: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience,



including 3+ years of hands-on production Go development.

Distributed Systems Mastery: Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture, microservices design, REST/gRPC API architectures, and data integration patterns.

Data & Caching Fundamentals: Strong proficiency with SQL databases (PostgreSQL, indexing, query optimization) and caching layer design (Redis).

Cloud & Containerization: Practical experience with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

Geographic & Time Zone Alignment: Based in Latin America (e.g., Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica) with fluent written and spoken English skills and full availability for daily US time zone overlap (minimum 4–5 hours daily).

Preferred Qualifications

Industry background in InsurTech, FinTech, or highly regulated SaaS domains.

Practical experience with Kafka, event-driven messaging, ETL pipelines, or real-time data synchronization.

Familiarity with security compliance frameworks (SOC 2, GDPR, data residency).

Success Metrics (KPIs)

Month 1: Complete technical onboarding, integrate into the systems engineering architecture, and ship initial Go codebase contributions.

Month 3: Independently execute complex system features, actively contribute to architecture design reviews, and establish reliable cross-team communication.

Month 6: Deliver production-ready, highly observable system components while elevating codebase quality and team engineering standards.
