We are seeking an Environmental Sustainability Specialist to support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Company’s Environmental Management System and environmental sustainability initiatives. This role will provide technical environmental expertise to improve operational performance, strengthen environmental practices, support compliance requirements, and contribute to broader sustainability programs aligned with the Company’s sustainability commitments.
The position will act as a bridge builder and change agent, partnering with Operations, Facilities, Safety teams, Environmental Data Owners, and other business functions to build collaboration and shared accountability. Through strong relationships, technical guidance, and effective communication, the role will translate sustainability objectives into practical environmental actions, measurable improvements, and long-term value creation.
What's unique about this job (What you’ll do)
Environmental Management System (EMS) & Environmental Performance
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Company’s Environmental Management System (EMS) across all countries of operation.
- Support environmental policies, procedures, standards, and operational guidelines.
- Support the identification, evaluation, and management of environmental aspects, impacts, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide environmental technical guidance to Operations, Facilities, Safety teams, and other stakeholders.
Environmental Programs, Climate & Operational Sustainability
- Lead and support environmental sustainability programs focused on waste management, recycling, resource efficiency, and continuous environmental improvement.
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of environmental programs across facilities, including training, engagement, progress tracking, and identification of improvement opportunities.
- Monitor environmental performance across operations and identify opportunities to improve environmental practices and reduce environmental impacts.
- Support climate and carbon initiatives by providing environmental technical expertise and operational insights.
- Support greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and carbon accounting activities through data review, technical validation, and operational knowledge.
- Support Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 initiatives through environmental expertise, operational insights, and technical validation.
- Support environmental improvement projects related to energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and refrigerant transition.
- Coordinate the Corporate Environmental Working Group and support cross-functional sustainability initiatives.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Monitor environmental regulatory developments and emerging requirements.
- Support environmental compliance reviews and operational risk assessments.
- Support corrective action tracking and continuous improvement opportunities.
Environmental Data Validation, Audits & Reporting
- Maintain environmental documentation and records to support audit readiness and continuous improvement.
- Support quarterly and annual environmental data reviews, audits,
and sustainability assurance activities through technical validation.
- Provide technical support on environmental methodologies, calculation approaches, assumptions, and emission factors when required.
- Review environmental supporting documentation and evidence to ensure accuracy, consistency, and traceability.
- Provide technical guidance and support to Environmental Data Owners.
Training, Organizational Capability Building & Sustainability Culture
- Develop and deliver environmental and sustainability training, awareness activities, and engagement initiatives in English and Spanish.
- Build strong partnerships with Operations, Facilities, Safety teams, Environmental Data Owners, and other stakeholders to strengthen environmental ownership and accountability.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and follow-up to stakeholders to support the successful implementation of environmental programs and sustainability initiatives.
- Act as a sustainability change agent by promoting the adoption of environmental practices, continuous improvement behaviors, and shared accountability.
- Build collaboration and alignment among different teams to create a coalition of stakeholders supporting sustainability objectives and culture change.
- Promote environmental responsibility, knowledge sharing, and best practices across the organization.
- Support the development of local capabilities and sustainability advocates who can help drive initiatives within their areas of responsibility.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support corporate sustainability projects.
- Support sustainability reporting, ESG disclosures, assessments, certifications, surveys, and benchmarking activities.
- Collaborate with Operations, Facilities, Supply Chain, Procurement, Safety, and other business functions to advance sustainability objectives.
- Coordinate with consultants, industry associations, and external partners as needed.
- Support the preparation of presentations, reports, and communication materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain environmental records, procedures, and supporting documentation.
- Support departmental planning, budgeting, and project management activities.
- Research environmental trends, innovations, and best practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve environmental performance and operational efficiency.
- Support the development of environmental improvement projects and business cases.
- Contribute to the achievement of the Company’s sustainability goals.
Bring your passion and expertise (Who you are)
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar role, preferably within retail, consumer goods, logistics, or a multi-site operational environment, with experience supporting environmental program implementation.
- Knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting and climate change, with proven experience in these areas.
- Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) is preferred.
- Experience supporting environmental compliance, audits, or risk assessments.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, at a high level, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite,
including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with data analysis tools is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally, including to the United States and other company locations as required.
