Daily duties and responsibilities

- Monitor fleet logbooks throughout the day. Review every driver’s logs multiple times during the 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. shift, tracking duty statuses, available hours, required breaks, rest periods, and approaching limits.
- Prevent HOS violations. Identify developing compliance risks and promptly notify drivers and dispatchers so driving plans and appointment schedules can be adjusted.
- Investigate existing violations. Review current and previous logs, establish what occurred, distinguish recording errors from presente violations, and document findings and corrective action.
- Review logs for accuracy and completeness. Identify incorrect duty statuses, missing certifications, unidentified driving, improper personal conveyance or yard moves, questionable edits, and missing required information. Compare logs with available trip, location, fuel, and shipping records when investigating discrepancies.
- Coordinate permitted log corrections. Verify the underlying facts, document the reason for each edit, preserve original records, and obtain required driver confirmation and recertification. Accurately document violations that occurred and address their causes.
- Train and educate drivers. Conduct onboarding, individual coaching,



and refresher training on HOS rules, proper ELD operation, duty-status selection, sleeper-berth provisions, breaks, restarts, certifications, and roadside inspection procedures.
- Verify understanding and improvement. Explain each identified mistake, show the driver the correct procedure, document training, and follow up to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate with dispatch. Provide accurate information about drivers’ available hours, identify assignments that cannot be completed legally, and escalate situations requiring driving to stop until the driver is eligible to resume.
- Administer the company’s three-warning policy. For confirmed violations covered by the policy, document and communicate the first warning with coaching; issue a second warning with the applicable company fine, where permitted by law and the governing driver agreement; and escalate the third warning for management-approved removal from the company.
- Maintain compliance records. Track violations, warnings, driver acknowledgments, training, corrections, and unresolved issues in an organized system.
- Address ELD problems. Investigate diagnostic alerts and malfunctions, coordinate with the ELD provider, and guide drivers through required malfunction and backup-record procedures.
- Report to management. Provide a daily summary of violations, preventive interventions, repeat issues, training completed, and outstanding concerns.



Communicate unresolved risks requiring attention after the shift and support compliance audits as needed.

- Required qualifications

- Minimum 2 years of direct experience auditing ELD logs and managing HOS compliance for U.S. interstate trucking fleets.
- Advanced working knowledge of FMCSA regulations and 49 CFR Part 395, including driving limits, duty windows, breaks, weekly limits, recaps, restarts, split sleeper berth, personal conveyance, yard moves, and applicable exceptions.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret log graphs, reconstruct driver activity, calculate available hours, and identify violations independently of automated system alerts.
- Strong understanding of permitted ELD edits, annotations, driver certification, unidentified driving, supporting documentation, and record retention.
- Proven experience training commercial drivers and explaining complex requirements in clear, practical language.
- Experience managing compliance across multiple drivers simultaneously and coordinating effectively with dispatch and management.
- Excellent attention to detail, documentation, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to address violations firmly and professionally, apply policy consistently, and exercise sound judgment under operational pressure.
- Ability to demonstrate expertise through a practical logbook review and driver-coaching exercise during the hiring process.

Preferred qualifications

- Experience using ApolloELD.
- Experience with ELD compliance and over-the-road operations.
- Experience supporting DOT/FMCSA audits and responding to HOS findings.
- Formal training in HOS, ELD compliance, or motor-carrier safety.
- Bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish.
