Where we need people most
Two profiles are our priority for this call:
Washington D.C. Outdoor educators who know the city and can teach it, with knowledge in American governmental institutions, history and politics, and who can help students examine how the narratives underpinning the nation's formation reinforce or disrupt their understanding of what it means to "be an American," and how decisions made centuries ago shape choices today.
Civil rights movements and American South history.
Outdoor educators with real depth in this materials who will lead students through key sites in Montgomery, Selma, Birmingham, and Tuskegee, covering both the prominent figures and lesser-known organizers of civil rights movements.
You should be equipped to connect this history to present-day questions of justice and equity, and to facilitate candid, well-informed discussions on difficult material with appropriate care.

The work
Each of our programs is built around several lenses of inquiry that generate guiding questions for students.
Your role is to bring these to life on the ground, building a cohesive narrative as the program unfolds.
In the field you will:
Lead a group of students and their faculty through a multi‐day program.
Facilitate daily briefings, thinking routines, and reflections that help students make connections and deepen their understanding of what they're experiencing.
Manage risk and follow protocols to keep every participant healthy, safe and secure.
Solve problems as they appear: travel changes, weather, a vendor who does not show, without lowering the quality of the experience.
Coordinate logistics with local providers and manage program budget and expenses.
Field teams run on shared ownership.
Each program has a Program Director, a Logistics Lead, an Education Lead and a Medical Lead.
New staff assist across all four roles while learning the system; lead roles open up as you grow.
Who we are looking for
First and foremost, an outdoor educator.
The work you do in the field is not separate from the learning that happens in a classroom, it is an extension of it.
We can teach facilitation craft.
What we look for on day one is:
Global citizenship.
You question who created a narrative, what perspective it represents and whose voices are missing.
You engage with cultural differences actively, with curiosity and generosity.
Trust and accountability.
You own your mistakes without shifting blame.
Your word can be relied on.
Calm under pressure.
When something goes wrong, you stay regulated and precise, and you treat safety protocols as protocols.
Reliability.
You execute what is expected of you, and fatigue does not lower your standard.




Attention to people.
You notice stress and exhaustion in a student or in a group, and you act on it.
Minimum requirements
Based in the United States.
Belief in our mission to develop empathic global leaders.
Enjoyment of travelling and working with people from different cultural backgrounds.
Ability to work as part of a team toward a common goal.
Availability for multi‐day programs, including weekends, during the US program seasons, arriving on site 1‐2 days before the group.
We would love to see
Deep knowledge in civil rights history, American history, democracy, African American studies or a related field.
Experience leading students and teachers on travel or field programs, or classroom experience with ages *****.
Comfort navigating Washington D.C. and Southern cities, and existing relationships with sites, museums or community partners in either region.
Advanced medical training (WFA, WFR, EMT or equivalent).
Additional languages.

Online onboarding, staff training camps, and virtual sessions built around the competencies where the cohort actually needs work.
You expand your instructional experience with students and professional outdoor educators, build connections with top independent schools, and sharpen your logistical and program management skills.
Compensation
USD $120 to $315 per field day, depending on your stage in the Career Ladder.
Your first three programs are paid at up to USD $200 per day while we establish your baseline.
All travel‐related program expenses are covered.
Training is assigned and completed as part of the engagement.

Application → structured interview with scenario‐based questions → references → training → your first three programs, which act as the practical evaluation and place you on the Career Ladder.
