A U.S.-based investment firm is seeking an Investment Analyst to join a small, entrepreneurial team investing in the North American lower-middle market. The firm evaluates both operating businesses, generally with USD 2 million to 20 million in EBITDA, and multifamily real estate across a range of industries.
This is a hands-on investment role for someone who can independently build and defend financial models, investigate an unfamiliar business or market, and turn the analysis into a clear written recommendation. It is not a fund accounting, investment operations, relationship management, or deal-sourcing-only position.
What you will do
- Build and review three-statement, leveraged buyout, discounted cash flow, and cash-flow models in Excel.
- Evaluate investment returns, capital structures, debt repayment, downside cases, sensitivities, and key operating assumptions.
- Conduct qualitative diligence using company information, public filings, specialist databases, industry research, and expert or management interviews.
- Prepare concise investment memos, reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior decision-makers.
- Support deal sourcing and pipeline management while maintaining accurate internal records.
- Improve diligence processes, financial-model templates, research tools, and team workflows.
- Manage multiple live priorities with a high level of accuracy, ownership, and follow-through.
What you must bring
- At least two years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, M&A;,
transaction-focused corporate development, or a closely related role.
- Hands-on experience personally building complete LBO models. You should be confident building an LBO model without relying on a completed template.
- Strong three-statement modeling, DCF, valuation, cash-flow analysis, and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience supporting live transactions or investment decisions, with a clear understanding of your individual contribution.
- Strong qualitative research and commercial judgment, not only financial-modeling ability.
- Polished professional English, including the ability to explain complex investment work clearly in conversation and writing.
- Experience preparing high-quality written materials such as investment memos, transaction summaries, pitch decks, or investment recommendations.
- Meticulous attention to detail, sound personal integrity, and the ability to work independently in a lean team.
- Availability for regular overlap with U.S. business hours.
Strongly preferred
- Experience with lower-middle-market buyouts, sponsor-backed transactions, or completed M&A; deals.
- Exposure to several industries or asset classes.
- Experience with investment committee materials, management interviews,
commercial diligence, or portfolio monitoring.
- CFA progress or a degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related discipline.
- Experience improving financial models, templates, research tools, or investment processes.
Compensation and working arrangement
- Monthly compensation: USD 5,000 to 6,000, based on the depth and relevance of experience.
- Full-time, remote, and intended as a long-term opportunity.
- The successful candidate must maintain regular overlap with U.S. business hours. The exact schedule and engagement structure will be discussed during the process.
- Candidates will be asked to discuss a model they personally built and to provide a redacted writing sample they are authorized to share. If prior work cannot be shared for confidentiality reasons, an alternative assessment may be offered.
How to apply
Please submit a current resume that clearly identifies your transaction experience, financial-modeling responsibilities, and individual contribution to relevant deals. Generic claims of "LBO exposure" without explaining what you personally built may not be sufficient.
