Track Team Lead

Position Summary The Lead Track Engineer is a senior technical leadership role responsible for the planning, design, engineering, and optimization of track geometry and track infrastructure for passenger and freight rail projects.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership and Design

- Lead the development and review of track geometry and railway infrastructure designs in compliance with applicable industry standards, codes, and client requirements.
- Serve as the discipline lead for track design on rail and transit projects, making decisions on highly complex issues regarding work approach for project components and completion of team tasks and responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to employees at all levels fostering technical excellence within the practice.
- Works cross functionally throughout the organization and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, utilities, structural, geotechnical, systems, and operations, to ensure design integration, technical alignment, and overall project optimization.
- Demonstrate exceptional initiative, creativity and innovation skills.
- Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, constructability analysis, construction staging, and value engineering exercises.
- Advanced English proficiency, both written and spoken.

Qualifications

- Preferably 10+ years’ experience in railway track engineering including delivery of complex, multi-discipline rail transit projects.

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited University engineering program
- Strong knowledge of industry railway design and construction standards/guidelines such as AREMA, CN, CPKC, TCRP, as well as regulatory requirements such as Transport Canada.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, technical leadership, and client ‑ facing roles.
- Proven leadership, communication, and proposal development skills, including the ability to lead technical inputs and support business development efforts.




- Solid understanding of track construction methods, inspection practices, asset management and maintenance requirements.
- Proficiency with railway design tools and platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, corridor modeling, Bentley Open Rail Designer, Navisworks).
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams (civil, utilities, structural, geotechnical, systems, and operations) and Operations disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.

Team Leadership & Capability Development

- Lead and grow the Bogota GCC Rail Track team in full collaboration with the national counterparts on the Canadian side, fostering a culture of technical excellence, personal collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Recruit, maintain and strategically develop team competency through mentoring, coaching, technical training, and professional development initiatives.
- Support resource planning, succession planning, and career development to build a sustainable Rail Track capability supporting Canadian and international projects.
- Establish and maintain technical governance, quality management processes, lessons learned, and peer review practices to ensure consistency and excellence across project deliverables.
- Promote knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices in Rail Track, Systems Engineering, Integration and broader transportation communities.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

- Serve as a senior technical interface for national Canadian counterparts, project teams, clients, operators, contractors, regulators, and internal stakeholders on Rail Track matters.
- Support business development, pursuits, and proposal activities by providing technical expertise and demonstrating thought leadership in Rail Track.
- Facilitate resolution of complex technical, operational, and Track-related issues while balancing project objectives, risk, quality, and client expectations.
- Represent the GCC Rail Track capability in client meetings, industry forums, audits, and technical working groups.
