We are Hiring!
Industry: Professional Pickleball
Employment Type: Full-Time
? About the Role
We are seeking a Biomedical Engineer with experience in biomechanics, sports technology, and injury prevention to join our professional Colombian pickleball performance team.
This position will be responsible for integrating biomedical engineering, human movement analysis, medical technology, and athlete performance data to help reduce injury risk and optimize player performance. The Biomedical Engineer will work directly with coaches, strength & conditioning staff, physical therapists, and medical professionals to develop systems for monitoring athlete health, workload, and performance during practice and tournaments.
? Key Responsibilities
Biomechanical Analysis & Performance
- Analyze pickleball-specific movements including acceleration, deceleration, lateral movement, jumping, landing, rotation, and recovery.
- Identify biomechanical patterns and asymmetries that may contribute to injury risk.
- Develop individualized injury-prevention protocols based on objective biomechanical and physiological data.
- Monitor changes in movement quality and performance that may indicate fatigue or increased injury risk.
Medical Equipment & Data Collection
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain biomedical and sports performance equipment used for athlete assessment.
- Collect objective data using force plates, pressure plates/in-shoe pressure sensors, 3D motion-capture systems, IMUs, surface EMG, dynamometers, range-of-motion assessment devices, balance/postural assessment systems, and wearable physiological sensors.
- Use high-speed video and motion-analysis systems to evaluate joint angles, movement patterns, landing mechanics, acceleration/deceleration, and asymmetries.
- Ensure appropriate equipment set-up, calibration, testing protocols, and data-quality standards.
Data Analysis & Software
- Collect, process,
and analyze human movement and physiological data using engineering software.
- Hands-on experience with platforms such as Visual3D, OpenSim, MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, or Arduino is highly desirable.
- Note: Candidates must demonstrate practical experience using these or comparable platforms to import, clean, synchronize, process, visualize, and analyze data obtained from biomedical equipment—academic familiarity alone is not sufficient.
Athlete Monitoring
- Establish baseline biomechanical and physiological profiles for each athlete.
- Track longitudinal changes in strength, mobility, movement quality, workload, fatigue, and performance.
- Integrate data from multiple measurement systems into comprehensive athlete profiles.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations that allow performance and medical staff to easily understand athlete trends.
- Identify meaningful changes in data and communicate potential concerns to the appropriate medical or performance professional.
? Collaboration The Biomedical Engineer will serve as a bridge between technology, engineering, sports science, and clinical performance, translating complex engineering findings into clear, practical recommendations.
You will work closely with:
- Head coaches & Strength & conditioning coaches
- Physical therapists & Athletic trainers
- Sports medicine physicians
- Performance analysts
? Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering,
or Bioengineering.
- Demonstrated experience in biomechanics, human movement analysis, biomedical instrumentation, sports technology, or athlete performance testing.
- Hands-on experience with biomedical measurement equipment, data acquisition systems, and analyzing physiological data.
- Demonstrated proficiency with at least one professional biomechanical/data-analysis platform (Visual3D, OpenSim, MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW).
- Strong understanding of data collection protocols, equipment calibration, signal processing, and data interpretation.
- Excellent ability to communicate technical findings to non-engineering professionals.
- Fluent conversational English B2 - C1 (spoken and written)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with professional or collegiate athletes.
- Experience in pickleball, padel, tennis, or other racket sports.
- Experience with injury-prevention programs, return-to-play testing, or wearable technology.
- Deep understanding of human anatomy, biomechanics, and sports injury mechanisms.
- Experience developing data-driven performance or injury-risk models.
- Active US Visa (B1/B2 or Work Visa) is a strong plus for international travel/events.
? What Success Looks Like The successful candidate will help build a data-driven injury prevention and performance system for professional pickleball, following this core cycle:
Measure → Analyze → Identify Risk → Intervene → Monitor → Improve
Our Goal: Keep athletes healthy, reduce preventable injuries, optimize recovery, and maximize performance throughout the competitive season.
