We are seeking a talented and motivated Staff EDA/CAD Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate combines hands-on experience supporting Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, semiconductor engineering workflows, and large-scale engineering compute environments with Linux systems experience.
You will be working on an experienced, diverse, and highly effective team building and operating secure, compliant, reliable, and efficient engineering development environments that empower hardware and silicon engineers to thrive. In collaboration with service owners and engineering teams, the team defines, discovers, tracks, operates, and improves development environments for our partners.
In the Staff EDA/CAD Engineer role, you will administer and evolve engineering-focused compute infrastructure while supporting the EDA applications, workflows, and automation used by mixed-signal silicon development teams with particular focus on the Cadence tools stack. You will act as a technical bridge between engineering users, EDA vendors, CAD teams, and infrastructure organizations. You will be responsible for maintaining highly available design environments, troubleshooting complex tool and system interactions, following security best practices, and improving engineering productivity through automation.
Job Description - What you'll do
- Install, configure, deploy, and maintain EDA/CAD tools and engineering software used throughout semiconductor design and verification workflows.
- Administer and support Linux-based engineering compute environments, including servers, workstations, virtual machines, and high-performance compute resources using Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and operational best practices.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex issues involving EDA applications, Linux systems, engineering workflows, compute resources, and design environments.
- Support semiconductor engineering teams across workflows such as RTL design, simulation, verification, synthesis, physical design, timing analysis, formal verification, and related disciplines.
- Manage and maintain EDA environments from major vendors with a specific focus on Cadence tools, along with tools from vendors such as Synopsys, Siemens EDA, Ansys, Keysight, or similar platforms.
- Diagnose performance and reliability issues across the full engineering stack, including EDA applications, operating systems, storage, networking, job schedulers, licenses, and compute infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain standardized EDA environments, tool configurations, technology files, libraries, scripts, and environment modules.
- Support and optimize distributed and high-performance compute environments used for engineering workloads.
- Administer or integrate with EDA license management systems, including FlexNet/FlexLM-based licensing, usage reporting, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.
- Perform routine system monitoring, performance tuning, capacity analysis, and root-cause troubleshooting.
- Implement and manage storage, networking, virtualization, and compute services supporting EDA workloads.
- Automate routine administration and CAD workflows using Python, Bash, Tcl, Perl, Ansible, or other automation technologies.
- Evaluate new EDA software releases, patches, and infrastructure changes in controlled environments before production deployment.
- Work with EDA vendors to diagnose product defects, performance issues, licensing problems, and integration challenges.
- Collaborate with silicon design, verification, CAD, infrastructure, storage, networking, application, and security teams to support enterprise-scale engineering systems.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, architecture diagrams, deployment standards, and troubleshooting guides.
- Configure, administer, and automate Mixed Signal source control systems, such as SOS from KeySight
- Participate in technical planning, capacity forecasting, architecture reviews, and continuous improvement of engineering development environments.
Required Qualifications - basic requirements to be considered
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience or occupational training.
- 7+ years of professional experience in EDA/CAD engineering, engineering systems administration, semiconductor development infrastructure or a closely related discipline.
- 4+ years of professional experience supporting or administering Cadence EDA applications and semiconductor engineering workflows.
- 4+ years of professional experience scripting or programming experience using Python, Bash, Tcl, Perl, or similar languages.
- English proficiency, both written and verbal. IET/CEFR/Cambridge B2, TOEFL, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications - what we're looking for
- Strong understanding of semiconductor design workflows and the infrastructure requirements of EDA applications, especially Mixed-Signal on the Cadence tool stack
- Deep knowledge of Linux command-line tools, system services, process management, filesystems, permissions, and performance analysis.
- Experience supporting flows involving technologies such as RTL simulation and verification, Logic synthesis. Static timing analysis, Formal verification, Physical design and place-and-route, Physical verification, Power and signal integrity analysis, or Design-for-test
- Experience managing FlexNet/FlexLM or equivalent license infrastructure, including license servers, utilization analysis, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with high-performance computing, distributed compute farms, or workload schedulers such as LSF, Slurm, Grid Engine, or similar technologies.
- Strong experience with troubleshooting, patching, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with networking concepts including DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls, NFS, and high-throughput engineering networks.
- Experience with configuration management and orchestration technologies such as Ansible, Red Hat Satellite, Puppet, Chef, or similar platforms.
- Experience managing large-scale NFS, NAS, parallel filesystems, or other high-performance storage platforms.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as KVM or VMware and container technologies such as Docker or Podman.
- Familiarity with cloud integration using Azure, AWS, or GCP in hybrid engineering environments.
- Experience building observability, monitoring, metrics, or logging solutions for engineering infrastructure.
- Strong documentation and communication skills for collaboration with engineering, IT, vendors, and leadership.
- Familiarity with source control and artifact management systems used in engineering environments such as SOS from KeySight
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced engineering environment with multiple competing priorities.
Bonus Experiences - ways to stand out
- Experience with EDA tool qualification, regression testing, release management, and production rollout processes.
- Experience building or maintaining CAD flow infrastructure, design environments, PDK integrations, technology files, or engineering tool wrappers.
- Experience with semiconductor process design kits (PDKs) and associated library or technology-file management.
- Experience optimizing EDA workloads for CPU, memory, storage I/O, network throughput, and license efficiency.
- Experience administering Infrastructure as a Service environments, including virtualized compute, high-performance storage, private connectivity, and secure hybrid-cloud architectures.
- Experience with, knowledge of, or coursework in any of the following areas:
- Writing SQL or KQL queries
- DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering principles
- CI/CD systems for engineering or EDA workflows
- Engineering telemetry and observability
- Semiconductor design or verification methodology

Typical base pay for this role across Colombia is 10,000,000 - 20,000,000 COT per month depending on expertise
