About the Role
VargasAndrews is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to manage accounting operations, lead team members, and work directly with U.S.based clients. This clientfacing role requires technical expertise, leadership, attention to detail, and clear communication.
You will oversee accounting deliverables, review the work of Junior and Intermediate Accountants, manage client relationships, and improve processes through automation and responsible use of AI tools. Previous accounting experience with U.S.based clients or businesses is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities
Senior Accounting and Reporting, 40
Manage the full accounting cycle, including Order to Cash, Procurement to Pay, and Record to Report.
Oversee receivables, payables, reconciliations, payroll accounting, accruals, prepayments, and general ledger accounts.
Prepare financial statements, consolidations, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
Complete monthend close and balance sheet reconciliations within agreed deadlines.
Client and Team Leadership, 30
Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned U.S. clients.
Address client questions and concerns clearly and promptly.
Plan deliverables, assign work, monitor progress, and ensure accurate, ontime completion.
Lead client and internal review meetings and follow through on agreed actions.
Review and Mentoring, 20
Review and approve the work of Junior and Intermediate Accountants.
Provide training, guidance, and constructive feedback.
Support onboarding and recruitment when required.
Maintain appropriate quality controls.
Process Improvement, 10
Develop accounting policies, procedures, checklists, and SOPs.
Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and client service.
Support automation and appropriate AItool adoption while verifying outputs and protecting confidential information.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Public Accountancy, or an equivalent qualifying degree.
Five to seven years of Senior Accountant or comparable leadership experience.
Accounting experience supporting U.S.based clients or businesses.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, IFRS, applicable tax requirements, and financial reporting standards.
Excellent written and spoken English, including clientfacing communication.
Experience reviewing work, mentoring accountants, and managing multiple deliverables.
Advanced Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks skills.
Experience with Xero, Bill.com, NetSuite, Sage, cost accounting, automation, or AI tools is an advantage.
Ability to follow California business hours and use Hubstaff.
Mandatory Professional Credential
Candidates must hold a current professional publicaccounting credential in good standing. A degree alone, examination pass without professional registration, or experience working under a CPA is insufficient.
Mexico Contador Público qualification, cédula competente, and current Contador Público Certificado certification issued by IMCP.
Colombia Contador Público qualification and valid Tarjeta Profesional issued by the Junta Central de Contadores.
Argentina Contador Público qualification and active matrícula with the relevant Consejo Profesional de Ciencias Económicas.
Candidates must provide the credential, issuing authority, jurisdiction, and registration or license number for verification. Applicants from other Latin American countries must hold the corresponding recognized credential.
A U.S. CPA license or CMA certification is an advantage but does not replace locally required authorization.
Engagement Terms
The proposed contractor fee is USD 3,0004,000 gross per month. The final offer will reflect the candidates qualifications, technical capability, leadership experience, and client communication skills.
The engagement may include up to 120 hours of annual servicebreak credits, credits for 13 recognized U.S. observance days, and wellness allowance eligibility after the applicable qualifying period.
As an independent contractor, the successful candidate will provide services remotely and maintain reliable internet, suitable equipment, and a secure workspace.
The contractor must follow California local time, including seasonal time changes. Hubstaff is mandatory for time tracking, with requirements confirmed before engagement.
Recruitment Process
We aim to complete the process within seven to ten calendar days, subject to scheduling and timely completion of requirements.
1. Initial Interview Background, experience, motivation, and engagement expectations.
2. Accounting Work Sample An anonymized portfolio or sample without confidential information.
3. Behavioral Interview Communication, leadership, client management, judgment, and problemsolving.
4. Technical Interview Accounting knowledge, quality control, clientfacing experience, and use of modern tools.
5. PreEngagement Checks Credential verification, references, and IT audit.
