About the role

Founded in 1968, the Guttmacher Institute is a global leader in advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights. Reporting to the Vice President of Global Research and Advocacy, the Director of Global Advocacy leads the Institute's worldwide advocacy strategy, translating Guttmacher's research into policy change at international, regional and national level. The role suits a seasoned integral health and rights advocate with deep SRHR expertise, a strong grasp of UN and multilateral policy processes, and established networks across coalitions, civil society, governments and NGOs. The qualifications explicitly value experience working in Africa and coalition-building in sub-Saharan Africa. Up to 30% international travel each year.

Key responsibilities

- Develop and execute Guttmacher's comprehensive global advocacy strategy for sexual and reproductive health and rights
- Represent the Institute at major international forums including UN meetings and the World Health Assembly
- Build and sustain strategic coalitions with NGOs, civil society, multilateral agencies and governments
- Translate research findings into compelling advocacy campaigns, narratives and policy-facing materials




- Lead and mentor team members across organisational levels
- Contribute to resource mobilisation for advocacy programmes and manage advocacy budgets
- Monitor global SRHR policy developments and advise senior leadership on strategic forecasting
- Serve as a public spokesperson and media representative, cultivating a strategic media list

Requirements

- Minimum ten years of progressively responsible experience in global advocacy, international policy or a closely related field, with substantial SRHR focus
- Experience building and leading coalitions and multi-stakeholder partnerships, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean
- Demonstrated success influencing SRHR policy outcomes through UN processes, multilateral agencies and national governments
- A deep, current network across the global SRHR field
- Prior leadership experience directing teams, with a track record of mentoring high-performing professionals
- Organisational and financial management skills including workplan development and budget oversight
- Master's degree in public policy, international relations, human rights, public health or a related field
- Availability for up to 30% international travel annually

- Published salary band of USD 188,800 - 217,100, with actual pay varying by region and qualifications
