About the role

We are hiring a QA Automation Engineer with 5–6 years of experience to build and own automated testing for our web and API products, using Playwright and TypeScript.

You will pair strong test design fundamentals with hands-on automation skills. You will work inside an Agile team with developers, product owners and DevOps to ship reliable, well-tested releases. This is a full-time, on-site, hands-on individual contributor role in Medellín for someone who takes ownership from test plan to green pipeline.

Key responsibilities

- Design, build and maintain scalable automated test suites with Playwright and TypeScript for web applications.
- Automate REST API tests using Playwright's API testing, Postman and Swagger/OpenAPI specifications.
- Apply sound framework design: Page Object Model, fixtures, reusable utilities, test data management and clear reporting.
- Write clear test plans, test scenarios and test cases from user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Run functional and non-functional testing: smoke, regression, integration, cross-browser, and basic performance and security checks.
- Integrate test suites into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar), with parallel runs and fast feedback on every build.
- Investigate failures, reduce flaky tests, and work with developers to debug and resolve defects.
- Take part in Agile ceremonies — sprint planning, refinement, stand-ups and retrospectives — and bring a quality view to each.
- Track and report defects clearly in tools such as Jira, with steps, evidence and severity.
- Use AI-assisted tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude or similar) responsibly to speed up test creation and maintenance.




- Review teammates' test code and share automation best practices across the team.

Must-have skills

Experience

- 5–6 years in software testing, with at least 3 years of hands-on test automation.

Playwright and TypeScript

- Strong, recent hands-on experience with Playwright for end-to-end testing.
- Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, including async/await and clean, typed test code.
- Working knowledge of Playwright features: auto-waiting and locators, fixtures, test hooks, parallel execution, cross-browser projects, network interception and mocking, traces, screenshots and HTML reports.
- Experience structuring a maintainable framework (Page Object Model or similar design patterns).

Testing fundamentals

- Solid grasp of the STLC and SDLC, test levels (unit, integration, system, UAT) and test types (smoke, sanity, regression, exploratory).
- Test design techniques: equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, decision tables, risk-based testing.
- Understanding the test pyramid and how to choose what to automate.
- Defect lifecycle management and clear bug reporting.

API testing

- Hands-on REST API testing with Postman and Playwright's request context.
- Experience reading and testing against Swagger/OpenAPI specs; status codes, auth (tokens, OAuth) and JSON schema validation.

Agile and delivery

- Experience working in Scrum or Kanban teams and testing within the sprint.
- Git and pull-request workflows; CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication in English.

Nice to have

- Performance testing exposure (k6, JMeter or Artillery) or security testing basics (OWASP Top 10).
- Visual regression or accessibility testing (e.g., axe-core with Playwright).
- Experience with Docker and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) for running tests at scale.
- Test management tools such as TestRail, Xray or Zephyr.
- Background in SaaS products or enterprise platforms (e.g., Salesforce, MuleSoft, Oracle).
- ISTQB Foundation or equivalent certification.
