Principal Voice & SBC Architect

Medellín, Colombia | Remote | Independent Contractor

Teams Plus is looking for a hands-on Principal Voice & SBC Architect to help design, deploy, and operate the next generation of our communications platform.

This is a senior individual-contributor role for someone who has personally built and operated production voice infrastructure—not simply designed it from a distance.

You will own voice and SBC architecture supporting carrier connectivity, SIP routing, browser calling, programmable communications, and highly available communications services. You will work closely with our Network & Infrastructure Architect, developers, data/AI specialists, leadership, carriers, and technology partners.

What You Will Own

Voice and SBC architecture

Design and operate Kamailio-based services, SIP routing, customer authentication, media handling, carrier interconnections, SBC interoperability, and multi-site failover.

Carrier and platform integration

Own the technical path between customers, our voice platform, SBCs, carriers, and downstream communications services. Ribbon and Microsoft Teams Direct Routing experience are especially valuable.

WebRTC and media

Design and troubleshoot WebRTC-to-SIP calling, including ICE/STUN/TURN, SDP, RTP/SRTP, DTLS-SRTP, NAT traversal, codecs, media handling, and browser-based calling.

Identity and service protection

Design and validate caller identity, number authorization, STIR/SHAKEN signing and verification, tenant separation, fraud controls, rate limits, and related service-protection policies.

Reliability and operations

Own monitoring, incident diagnosis, carrier/vendor escalation, capacity planning, recovery testing, patching, and technical escalation for the voice platform after deployment.

Automation and engineering quality

Turn recurring investigations and operational changes into documented runbooks, tests,



and controlled automation. We actively use AI-assisted engineering tools, but our technical experts remain accountable for validation and production outcomes.

What We're Looking For

You should have substantial hands-on experience building and operating production SIP/VoIP services, including direct responsibility for deployments and incidents.

Strong candidates will bring

- Hands-on Kamailio configuration and troubleshooting experience
- Strong SIP routing, authentication, transaction, dialog, and failover knowledge
- Production SBC and carrier-interconnection experience
- WebRTC-to-SIP implementation and troubleshooting experience
- Experience with RTPengine, FreeSWITCH, or comparable media/call-control platforms
- Working knowledge of caller identity, number entitlement, and STIR/SHAKEN
- Linux, Git, scripting, API, and repeatable deployment skills
- Experience diagnosing SIP and media problems using tools such as Wireshark, sngrep, or Homer
- The ability to communicate clearly with business leaders, developers, operators, carriers, and vendors

Experience with Ribbon SBCs and Microsoft Teams Direct Routing is particularly valuable.

Professional fluency in spoken and written English is required.

This position owns voice-service architecture and technical acceptance while working as a peer with the architect responsible for the underlying network and infrastructure.

Production Ownership

This is a senior technical ownership role supporting production communications infrastructure.

Major production incidents are uncommon, but critical services do not always fail during business hours. When a significant service-impacting incident occurs, we expect our senior technical owners to participate in diagnosis and resolution until service is restored.

What Success Looks Like

Your initial work will include:

- An evidence-backed map of the existing voice environment and dependencies
- A phased architecture and deployment plan
- A reproducible lab environment demonstrating critical voice and SBC functionality
- A tested path from lab through production deployment
- Capacity, failover, monitoring, recovery, and rollback procedures
- At least one verified AI-assisted operational workflow that another engineer can safely use and maintain

Location & EngagementThis is currently a remote independent contractor opportunity for a professional based in Medellín, Colombia. The contractor engagement will be administered through Deel.

Teams Plus is building its presence in Medellín, and the working arrangement may evolve toward hybrid or on-site collaboration in the future.
