The Integral Transportation Pricing & Benchmarking Manager is a hands-on individual contributor responsible for analyzing transportation data to identify pricing, benchmarking, sourcing, and measurable savings opportunities across multiple transportation modes. The role combines advanced transportation pricing analysis with customer-facing solution development and transportation provider negotiations.
This individual owns pricing and benchmarking engagements from analysis through recommendation and commercial execution: understanding current transportation costs, normalizing complex rate structures, establishing meaningful benchmarks, developing sourcing and negotiation strategies, presenting and defending recommendations, and participating in or leading transportation provider negotiations designed to convert identified opportunities into measurable customer results.
The position does not initially require direct personnel management. The Manager title reflects ownership of the pricing and benchmarking function and accountability for customer outcomes.
The position requires broad transportation knowledge, with particular emphasis on domestic and international small parcel, international heavy air freight, and international ocean freight.
Experience with LTL, Truckload, Rail, Intermodal, Drayage, and other transportation modes is also valuable. Candidates do not need to be equally experienced in every mode; demonstrated depth in one or more priority modes and the ability to expand across modes will be considered.
Key Responsibilities include
Transportation Pricing & Benchmarking
- Analyze shipment-level, invoice, rate, surcharge, accessorial, service-level, lane, zone, weight, and transportation provider data to establish a complete current-state transportation cost profile.
- Validate benchmarking and savings models against actual freight invoice and shipment-level spend so recommendations reflect the true cost of transportation, including base transportation charges, fuel, accessorials, minimums, dimensional weight, duties and taxes where applicable, and other contractual charges.
- Develop and maintain transportation pricing benchmarks by mode, lane, geography, service level, weight break, zone, shipment characteristic, and other relevant cost drivers.
- Benchmark customer pricing against internal transportation data, historical sourcing events and bids, transportation provider proposals, customer-specific agreements, and appropriate external market intelligence.
- Normalize pricing to create meaningful like-for-like comparisons, including base rates, discounts, minimums, fuel, accessorials, dimensional weight, zones, weight breaks, origin/destination charges, and contractual terms.
- Develop current-state versus proposed-state cost models and quantify realistic savings opportunities.
- Identify pricing trends, anomalies, unfavorable contract provisions, cost drivers, and opportunities for improved transportation pricing or service alignment.
- Help develop and maintain reusable nVision Global benchmarking methodologies, databases, tools, and market intelligence capabilities.
Small Parcel Pricing
- Analyze domestic and international parcel pricing structures, including zones, service levels, weight breaks, dimensional weight, minimum charges, fuel, residential and delivery-area surcharges, additional handling, oversize charges, international surcharges, and earned/tiered discounts.
- Evaluate customer-specific parcel agreements and model alternative pricing structures,
provider scenarios, service changes, and negotiation opportunities.
- International Heavy Air & Ocean Pricing
- Analyze international heavy air pricing including chargeable weight, actual versus dimensional weight, lane pricing, origin/destination charges, fuel/security charges, forwarder pricing, consolidation, and airport-to-airport versus door-to-door structures.
- Analyze ocean pricing including FCL/LCL, container types, port pairs, origin/destination charges, drayage, fuel-related charges, detention/demurrage concepts, accessorials, and forwarder/NVOCC pricing structures.
Sourcing, Negotiation & Commercial Execution
- Develop sourcing strategies, bid packages, pricing scenarios, negotiation targets, and evaluation models for transportation RFPs/RFQs.
- Evaluate transportation provider bids and proposals, normalize responses, identify material differences, and determine whether proposed pricing is competitive and commercially sound.
- Participate in and, when appropriate, lead transportation provider pricing and contract negotiations.
- Translate benchmark findings into specific negotiation positions and defend those positions using data and financial analysis.
- Measure negotiated results against baseline and modeled expectations to confirm realized savings and identify follow-up opportunities.
Customer & Sales Support
- Translate complex transportation pricing and benchmarking analysis into clear business recommendations for customers and prospects.
- Present and defend findings with customer executives, procurement teams, transportation professionals, finance teams, and other stakeholders.
- Support nVision Global Sales and Supply Chain Services teams during discovery, solution development, customer presentations, RFPs, sourcing initiatives, and negotiations.
- Clearly explain the methodology, assumptions, data, risks, and financial impact supporting each recommendation.
- Help convert analytical findings into compelling, credible business cases that demonstrate measurable customer value.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze customer and nVision Global data across orders, shipments, freight invoices, transportation rates, and related supply chain information.
- Use advanced Excel, nSight, IMPACT AdHoc Reporting, BI tools, and other analytical technologies to develop models, dashboards, and management-ready reporting.
- Maintain high standards for data accuracy, consistency, documentation, assumptions, and analytical methodology.
- Work with Operations, Freight Audit & Payment, Supply Chain Services, Sales, IT, and Finance to ensure analyses reflect operational and financial realities.
Qualifications include
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Finance, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in transportation pricing, rate analysis, benchmarking, procurement, sourcing, freight audit, transportation analytics, or related disciplines.
Demonstrated capability is more important than years of experience.
Freight Audit & Invoice Analysis: Experience reviewing and interpreting freight invoices and understanding the relationship between contracted transportation rates, shipment characteristics, invoice charges, and actual transportation spend is strongly preferred. Candidates with freight audit experience should be able to recognize billing discrepancies, rate application issues, accessorial charges, and other cost drivers that may affect benchmarking, sourcing, and negotiation strategies.
Transportation Expertise: Demonstrated experience in Domestic and/or International Small Parcel, International Heavy Air, or International Ocean transportation. Experience across multiple priority modes is strongly preferred.
Analytical Capability: Demonstrated ability to interpret complex transportation rate agreements, analyze shipment-level data, normalize transportation costs, develop financial models, identify savings opportunities, and support recommendations with defensible data.
Customer-Facing / Commercial Capability: Ability to translate complex transportation pricing analysis into clear business recommendations and confidently present and defend findings. More experienced candidates must demonstrate customer-facing consultative experience and the ability to participate in or lead transportation provider pricing negotiations. Experience supporting Sales, customer presentations, sourcing events, and negotiations is strongly preferred.
Technology: Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, data manipulation, scenario modeling, and financial analysis. Experience with BI/reporting tools and large transportation datasets is strongly preferred.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex transportation pricing concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Candidate Profile nVision Global is seeking an analytically strong transportation professional who is commercially capable, intellectually curious, and comfortable moving between detailed shipment-level data and executive-level recommendations. The successful candidate must be willing to challenge assumptions, support conclusions with data, and take ownership of recommendations rather than simply produce analysis.
A candidate earlier in their career may succeed in this position if they demonstrate strong transportation pricing knowledge, analytical ability, communication skills, and the potential to grow into customer-facing negotiation responsibilities. A more senior candidate will be expected to bring immediate customer-facing credibility, consultative presentation skills, and the ability to independently support or lead transportation provider negotiations.
Success will be measured by the ability to:
- Produce accurate, defensible transportation pricing and benchmarking analyses that identify measurable opportunities.
- Build increasingly robust nVision Global benchmarking intelligence and reusable analytical methodologies.
- Translate analysis into practical sourcing, pricing, and negotiation strategies.
- Present findings clearly and credibly to internal teams, customers, prospects, and transportation providers.
- Support or lead negotiations that convert identified opportunities into measurable customer savings and improved commercial terms.
- Develop broad multimodal expertise while maintaining deep capability in nVision Integral’s priority transportation areas.
