The Software Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining the backend services and APIs that the business runs on, and for applying machine learning and data science techniques to the forecasting and analytical challenges the business depends on. The role spans the full lifecycle: gathering requirements from business stakeholders, designing and implementing backend services and models, shipping them through the deployment pipeline, and supporting them in production.

This role pairs deep backend software engineering with applied machine learning. The majority of the work is designing, building, and maintaining well-tested APIs and services; that work is complemented by developing and deploying ML models that improve forecasting and data-driven decision-making across the business. Engineers build technical depth in the systems and models they own while expanding their domain knowledge of the renewable energy business those systems serve.

This is a 3-month contract, with extension to 6 months based on performance.

Responsibilities:

Software Development

- Design, develop, test, and maintain Python backend services, APIs, and internal applications.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and contribute to code quality and engineering standards.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming technologies such as Kafka.

Production & Operations

- Deploy, monitor, and support applications in production.
- Troubleshoot issues across applications, databases, message streams, and third-party integrations.




- Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment configurations.

Data, Machine Learning & Integrations

- Apply machine learning, statistical modeling, and forecasting techniques to business and data science initiatives.
- Perform data analysis, feature engineering, and model validation using Python, NumPy, pandas, and related tools.
- Design data models, optimize queries, and build data pipelines for large datasets.
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain ML models in production.
- Develop integrations with internal and enterprise systems such as Salesforce.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

- Work closely with Engineering, Development, Finance, Operations, and business stakeholders.
- Translate ambiguous business needs into practical software solutions.
- Provide technical support and explain complex concepts to non-technical users.
- Maintain clear technical documentation and identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce technical debt, and increase efficiency.

Key Requirements:

- Professional experience in backend software development with Python.
- Experience designing and consuming APIs.
- Knowledge of Machine Learning, statistical modeling, predictive modeling, or forecasting.
- Strong experience with NumPy, pandas, databases, data modeling, and query optimization.
- Proven experience owning and supporting software in production.
- Strong communication, documentation, problem-solving, and autonomous work skills.
- Background in renewable energy, solar development, energy modeling, performance engineering, or asset management is highly relevant.

Preferred Technologies:

AWS, Kubernetes, Docker/containers, CI/CD, Salesforce, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and time-series forecasting.
