Reporting to Field Communications Director,the Regional Reporter is based in Colombia under the Unbound-Kansas marketing and communications team, gathering content in the form ofaudio, photo, video, interviews and information, to tell stories of children, youth, elders and families participating in Unbound programs in Colombiaand other assigned countries while bringing a field perspective to inform and influence marketing and communications strategies and initiatives.Who We AreUnbound is an international nonprofit called to put the needs of the marginalized and vulnerable first. We create practical and trustworthy means for people to help others and nurture human connections thatuplift us all.Our Mission is to walk with families on their self-directed paths out of poverty.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReport, photograph, shoot video, write, edit, produce and do voiceovers for news, feature and promotional storytelling in print and digital formats, consistent with the mission, core values and brand identity of Unbound.Collaborate with the Unbound programs in Colombia, and other projects and countries in Latin America that may be assigned, and with the Kansas marketing and communications team, to generate story and visual ideas and proposals that support acquisition and retention marketing strategies, along with media relations efforts to raise awareness of the work of Unbound.Complete special assignments requested by Unbound, from time to time, throughout the year, for assets/material intended for specific marketing efforts and/or campaigns.Collaborate with other reporters and/or KC staff to transcribe, translate video/audio interviews, organize material and upload it to the Digital Asset Management (Canto), when necessary. Use different types of video and photo cameras to create high-definition videos and images with professional-style and documentary-quality storytelling. Maintain cordial, consistent, transparent, and respectful communication and relationships with the coordinators and teams in the Unbound Programs and headquarters staff, to create strong bonds of collaboration and flow of assignment profiles and material to be covered. In collaboration with program coordinators and the Kansas marketing and communications team, work with a network of team members among the Unbound programs in Colombia, and other projects and countries in Latin America that may be assigned, to serve as communications correspondents, providing story leads and generating content to support acquisition, retention and awareness strategies for Unbound.Provide training, as needed, to correspondents in such areas as elements of a good story, capturing compelling photos and video, conducting effective interviews, and gathering material that is accurate, authentic, ethical and meets the publication standards of Unbound. Help define concepts and realities important to articulate from the Unbound programs in Colombia, and other projects and countries in Latin America that may be assigned, to U.S. audiences, including sponsors, donors, prospective sponsors, and the general public. Have a desire to share the lived reality, abilities and dignity of the people participating in the Unbound programs in Colombia, and other projects and countries in Latin America that may be assigned. Adhere to journalistic ethics and principles and Unbound principles of gentle, balanced leadership. Maintain efficient workflow practices.Communicate with the Unbound field communications director and/or Kansas point person(s) from the marketing and communications team, primarily via Teams or other communications platforms such as WhatsApp, as needed, for meetings to discuss ideas, questions, concerns or progress regarding status of assignments, travel and other topics.
Meet deadlines for all assignments. In case of extenuating circumstances, communicate those in a timely manner to the field communications director or the Kansas point person(s), so deadlines may be adjusted accordingly. Provide timely and accurate reporting and documentation of travel and communications-related expenses for reimbursement, following all policies and procedures outlined by Unbound. Travel locally and internationally to cover assignments from time to time at the request of Unbound.Other duties may be assignedA regional reporter may be asked by the projects in Colombia and other assigned projects to assist with internal communications needs. Such requests must be approved by the field communications director or the Kansas point person(s). Complete any and all other tasks assigned by the field communications director, editorial director or vice president of marketing and communications, consistent with the mission and values of Unbound and the duties of the marketing and communications department.Personal Characteristics & CompetenciesTo perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies and qualifications:Cultural sensitivity: Ability to relate in a respectful and professional way with people of all ages, sexes, races, colors, cultural backgrounds, religions, national origins, disabilities, economic statuses, or other characteristics or statuses. Copywriting and production standards– Writes and edits proficiently; applies principles of good news, feature and promotional writing and storytelling; demonstrates familiarity with Unbound brand messaging and incorporates into all content; adheres to professionalethics and standards of accuracy and fairness; demonstrates basic familiarity with media law regarding libel, right of privacy and copyright guidelines; conducts in‑person, telephone, online and email interviews effectively; demonstrates creativityand attention to detail. Photography– Ability to effectively use a variety of video and still cameras. Must be able to take clear, well-composed, technically correct photographs of people, landscapes, animals and things. Depending on the situation, the liaison could also be required to capture and send photos and/or video taken with mobile devices such as cell phones, tablets, etc. Video/audio production – Must have ability to use video and audio recorders and editing software. Must have ability to create a storyboard, script and treatment of videos. Must be able to both direct and shoot video with confidence and accuracy. Generates creative solutions; translates concepts andinformation into videos, audio and slideshows; applies audiovisual principles; uses feedback to modifyprojects; demonstrates attention to detail. Fluency in written and spoken English is preferable. Computer skills: Strong computer skills. Mac and PC versátil. Proficiency includes Microsoft Office, video editing software and Photoshop. Multimedia skills: Expertise in and ability to shoot video, use ambient and artificial light, record sound, and edit video, audio and slideshows. Understands elements of good photography and sound quality. Competent in shooting still photography. Interested in learning new multimedia software, hardware and techniques. Personal characteristics: Reporter will be responsible with the resources entrusted to Unbound, consistent with sound business practices. Responsible for maintaining respectful, collaborative relationships with partnering groups.
