Position Overview
We are seeking a results-driven Independent Freight Sourcing Specialist to support our transportation brokerage by sourcing qualified carriers and securing capacity for ad hoc and spot market shipments. This role is strictly focused on load coverage and carrier procurement, with no sales or customer acquisition responsibilities. The ideal candidate is highly organized, responsive, and experienced in using load boards and carrier vetting tools to secure reliable transportation solutions efficiently.
This is a 1099 independent contractor position offering flexibility and performance-based earning potential.
Key ResponsibilitiesCarrier Sourcing & Load Coverage
- Source and secure qualified carriers for spot and ad hoc freight using load boards such as DAT, Truckstop, and other industry tools.
- Negotiate competitive rates while ensuring service expectations and margin targets are met.
- Prioritize covering loads with vetted and preferred carriers whenever possible.
- Maintain consistent communication with carriers from booking through dispatch handoff.
Carrier Vetting & Compliance
- Verify carrier credentials including authority, insurance, safety ratings, and compliance using tools such as RMIS, MyCarrierPackets, Carrier411, SaferWatch, or similar platforms.
- Identify and avoid fraudulent or high-risk carriers by following established vetting procedures.
- Ensure all required onboarding documentation is complete and approved before dispatch.
Communication & Coordination
- Provide timely updates to the brokerage operations team regarding coverage status, challenges, and market conditions.
- Clearly communicate load details, requirements, and expectations to carriers at the time of booking.
- Document all communications, rates, and carrier details accurately within the company’s TMS and communication platforms.
Performance & Accountability
- Meet established coverage timelines and service standards.
- Maintain strong responsiveness during assigned working hours.
- Support continuous improvement by providing feedback on carrier performance and market trends.
Scope of Work
Included:
- Carrier sourcing and rate negotiation for ad hoc and spot freight.
- Carrier vetting and onboarding coordination.
- Load coverage updates and documentation in company systems.
Not Included:
- Customer sales or account management.
- Pricing strategy development (unless requested).
- Dispatch, tracking, invoicing, or collections responsibilities.
QualificationsRequired:
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in freight brokerage, carrier sales, dispatch, or load coverage.
- Strong working knowledge of load boards such as DAT and Truckstop.
- Experience with carrier vetting tools (e.g., RMIS, MyCarrierPackets, Carrier411, SaferWatch, FMCSA Safer).
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple loads, and perform under time-sensitive conditions.
- Reliable internet connection, computer, and professional work environment.
Preferred:
- Experience using TMS platforms such as Turvo, McLeod, Ascend, PCS, or similar systems.
- Established carrier relationships across common equipment types (Dry Van, Reefer, Flatbed, Power Only, etc.).
- Familiarity with current freight market trends and lane dynamics.
Compensation
- 1099 Independent Contractor
- Compensation structure includes:
- Base monthly compensation
- Per-load coverage fee
- Specific compensation details will be outlined in the Independent Contractor Agreement. All inclusive, compensation average for this position is between $1400 - $2500+ USD.
Work Structure
- Remote position.
- Adaptable schedule aligned with assigned coverage hours and load demands.
- Contractor is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, equipment, and business expenses.

- Must operate as an independent contractor and not as an employee.
- Must adhere to all company policies related to carrier compliance, fraud prevention, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding company customers, rates, and carrier relationships.
