Engineering Lead

Position Summary:

Our partner is a fintech company whose lending products depend on reliable credit decisions made across backend services, external risk providers, and machine learning models. When one of those systems is slow or returns incomplete information, the way the software responds can affect a real business decision. As an Engineering Lead, you’ll help a Credit Risk engineering team make those connections more dependable.

This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys getting into the architecture, understanding production issues, and helping engineers solve difficult problems. Some weeks that means writing code; other weeks, it means working through a model integration or evaluating a technical design before it creates problems in production. Your contribution will be to make sure the models and surrounding services work together reliably within the lending product, with the monitoring and recovery processes needed for a live decision system.

Experience and Education:

- BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience/field
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including recent hands-on backend development and technical leadership.
- Experience building and supporting backend applications, APIs, and services in production, using cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD, and relational databases.
- Experience guiding engineers through architecture decisions, code reviews, and complex technical problems while continuing to contribute directly.
- Hands-on experience deploying or integrating machine learning models into production applications, including monitoring and recovery.




- Experience designing and troubleshooting distributed systems involving multiple services, external providers, or other complex integrations.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

- Guide the technical direction of the Credit Risk engineering team while staying involved in implementation.
- Build and improve backend services that connect lending applications, risk providers, and machine learning models.
- Partner with Data Science to deploy models and integrate them into production services.
- Improve model versioning, testing, monitoring, and rollback practices.
- Design safe responses to provider outages, incomplete data, timeouts, and other partial failures.
- Work with Credit Risk and Data Science when a system failure could affect decision behavior.
- Investigate production incidents, identify root causes, and improve how the team detects and resolves problems.
- Review code and architecture proposals, explain tradeoffs, and help engineers work through difficult decisions.
- Write code where direct technical contribution will move a solution forward.
- Improve the reliability and maintainability of existing risk integrations and backend systems.
- Partner with Engineering, Credit Risk, Product, QA, Platform, and Data Science to set practical technical priorities.
- Mentor engineers through design discussions, implementation, and production troubleshooting.
