Role Purpose

Design, lead and evolve the blockchain architecture of Kushki's Treasury 2.0 & Stablecoins project, including the wallet and custody infrastructure, the internal ledger that maintains the per-merchant breakdown, the integration with on/off-ramp rails and stablecoin issuers, smart contracts, and the connection to the company's traditional payments infrastructure (Visa/Mastercard acquiring, LATAM local payment rails, and treasury).

This role serves as the technical authority responsible for transforming product and business decisions into a secure, scalable, auditable architecture that complies with each country's regulations, working closely with Product, Engineering, Treasury, Compliance, and ecosystem partners.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

- Design the end-to-end wallet, custody, and ledger architecture (omnibus model with per-merchant sub-addresses on Fireblocks, off-chain ledger as the source of truth, and strict 1P/3P fund separation), as well as the data model supporting the complete treasury flow—from on-ramp, funding, holding, settlement, and off-ramp to refunds, chargebacks, withholdings, rolling reserves, and reconciliation.
- Evaluate and select blockchain networks (L1/L2, permissioned, public, or hybrid), token standards, and technology providers, balancing cost, finality, latency, privacy, and compliance requirements.
- Design the issuance of proprietary tokens backed 1:1 by local currencies (MXNK, COPK) and the use of stablecoins (USDC, USDT, RLUSD) for liquidity management, settlement, and cross-border payments.
- Design hybrid, event-driven integrations (webhooks, idempotency, eventual consistency, rollback mechanisms) between card processors, local payment rails (SPEI, PSE, PIX, ACH), Kushki's banking and accounting core, and blockchain networks.

Technical Leadership
- Own the project's architectural decisions (ADRs), including ledger design, establish blockchain architecture standards, and lead technical reviews, proof of concepts (PoCs), and partner integrations.
- Drive architecture decisions together with Engineering, Product, Security, Treasury, and Compliance, translating complex technical trade-offs into business language for non-technical stakeholders.

- Support Treasury Operations, Payments Operations, and Accounting in redesigning their processes based on the new architecture, gaining a deep understanding of current operations before proposing improvements.

Security & Compliance
- Design institutional key management, signing, and custody policies (MPC, HSM, policy engines, TAP, roles, workspaces, operational limits), approval workflows, and security, resilience, and business continuity controls.
- Integrate KYT and blockchain analytics solutions (Chainalysis, TRM Labs, or similar), including on-chain AML screening into custody and third-party payment flows, in coordination with the MLRO.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (VASP, e-money regulations, and country-specific LATAM regulations), support partners' technical due diligence processes, and evaluate smart contract audits before protocol integrations.

Integration & Ecosystem
- Design and implement integrations with custodians, stablecoin issuers, on/off-ramp providers, blockchain networks, and yield providers, including Visa/Mastercard stablecoin settlement and cross-chain interoperability (bridges, lock/burn/mint mechanisms).
- Lead the technical evaluation of vendors through RFIs, PoCs, and due diligence, while participating in negotiations related to integrations, SLAs, and support models.

Innovation
- Research trends in stablecoins, real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, institutional DeFi, and permissioned blockchain networks.
- Lead proof of concepts with ecosystem partners and translate findings into long-term architectural decisions.

Requirements

Experience

- 8+ years of experience in software architecture or distributed systems, including at least 4 years designing blockchain or digital asset solutions in production environments (required).
- Experience in Fintech, Crypto, Payments, or financial institutions. Experience in acquiring, payment processing, or treasury is a plus.
- Proven experience leading architecture decisions in high-availability cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure), working with distributed engineering teams and external technology partners.
- Advanced spoken and written English. All meetings with strategic partners are conducted in English.

Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of blockchain fundamentals (consensus, finality, validators, gas economics)

and L1/L2 trade-offs, as well as permissioned, public, and hybrid networks (EVM, XRPL, Solana, Canton, SUI, Tempo, or similar). Required.
- Experience with smart contracts (Solidity/EVM; Move or DAML is a plus), token standards (ERC-20, SPL, Trust Lines, Move Objects), and the ability to review security audits and identify potential risks.
- Deep knowledge of institutional custody and wallet infrastructure, including MPC, HSM, multisig, custodial vs. self-custodial models, and Wallet-as-a-Service platforms at scale (500K+ merchants), using Fireblocks, DFNS, BitGo, or similar solutions.
- Experience with stablecoins and tokenized assets, including issuance, backing, redemption (USDC, USDT, RLUSD), tokenized Treasury Bills (RWA), on-chain yield mechanisms, and associated risks.
- Experience with KYT and blockchain AML tools (Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic), including wallet screening, transaction monitoring, and VASP compliance.
- Strong understanding of ledger design, including account vs. UTXO models, entity-based sub-ledgers, settlement finality, reconciliation, and eventual consistency patterns.
- Experience designing event-driven architectures, APIs, and microservices, including idempotency, webhooks, failure recovery, batch rollback, and infrastructure/application security.
- Solid understanding of traditional payment rails (Visa, Mastercard, SPEI, PSE, PIX, ACH), as well as foreign exchange, liquidity management, and cross-border settlement concepts.
