The Meridian Institute

Bogotá

The Meridian Institute is seeking accomplished energy practitioners in Colombia to join its international faculty as Senior Faculty Fellows in BESS & Power Systems . This appointment is intended for senior professionals with deep experience in battery energy storage systems (BESS), power systems, and the development and execution of complex energy projects in Colombia.

Meridian Senior Faculty Fellows are practitioners whose expertise has been shaped by responsibility for consequential projects, systems, investments, and decisions. They bring that experience into executive and technical education, applied research, and industry engagement. We are particularly interested in professionals who understand what it takes to move a BESS project from opportunity to execution, and where technical, regulatory, commercial, and operational challenges emerge along the way.

This is a part-time faculty appointment designed for accomplished professionals who wish to remain active in industry while contributing their expertise to high-level professional education.

Areas of Expertise

We are seeking exceptional depth in one or more of the following areas:

BESS Project Development & Execution

Project screening and feasibility, development strategy, technical due diligence, technology selection, procurement, EPC execution, commissioning, operational readiness, and project risk.

Power Systems & Grid Integration

Transmission and distribution, interconnection, system planning, grid constraints, reliability, renewable integration, flexibility, and the technical requirements affecting storage deployment.

BESS Engineering & Performance

System architecture, sizing and duration, performance, degradation, safety, controls, commissioning, operations, and integration with renewable generation.

Colombian Electricity Markets & Regulation The regulatory, institutional, market, and interconnection environment affecting energy storage and power projects in Colombia.

BESS Economics & Commercial Strategy

Project economics, cost and revenue assumptions, business models, investment evaluation, commercial structures, risk allocation, and project viability.

Candidates are not expected to specialize in every area. We value exceptional depth, applied judgment, and direct industry experience over breadth alone.

Who We Are Looking For

Strong candidates will have substantial experience developing, designing,

evaluating, financing, regulating, implementing, or operating complex energy projects. Relevant backgrounds may include utilities and power-system organizations, energy and infrastructure developers, independent power producers, EPC and engineering firms, energy-storage and technology companies, regulatory, planning, and market institutions, infrastructure investment and project-finance organizations, and energy consulting or advisory firms. Direct experience within the Colombian electricity sector is important.

Above all, we are looking for practitioners who have been close enough to complex projects to understand not only how they are intended to work, but where they become difficult in practice.

The strongest candidates will bring:

- Significant professional achievement within the energy sector
- Direct responsibility for complex projects, systems, investments, or technical initiatives
- Deep expertise in a relevant BESS or power-systems discipline
- Strong knowledge of the Colombian energy environment
- Sound technical and professional judgment
- The ability to make complex ideas clear without oversimplifying them
- Credibility with technical specialists and senior decision-makers
- The ability to lead sophisticated professional discussion
- Intellectual independence and high standards of professional integrity

Advanced academic credentials are welcomed, but substantial industry accomplishment and applied expertise are more important than academic credentials alone. Professional fluency in Spanish is required. Professional working proficiency in English is preferred.

Faculty Contributions

Depending on expertise and program needs, Senior Faculty Fellows may contribute to:
- Executive masterclasses
- Advanced technical and professional workshops
- One-day intensive programs
- Private programs for companies and industry organizations
- Applied project cases and simulations
- Executive and industry briefings
- Curriculum and learning-tool development

- Applied research and thought leadership

Meridian programs are built around real decisions, constraints, tradeoffs, and execution challenges, not simply the presentation of information. Faculty engagements are matched to each Fellow's particular expertise. Engagement & Compensation
- Part-time independent contractor appointment
- Primarily virtual engagement, with select opportunities for in-person programs
- Engagements scheduled according to program needs and faculty availability
- Competitive compensation based on expertise, program scope, and level of contribution
- Opportunities to contribute to programs in Colombia and across Meridian's international portfolio

This is not a traditional full-time academic appointment. It is designed for accomplished professionals who wish to remain active in industry while contributing their expertise to serious professional education and applied industry work. About The Meridian Institute The Meridian Institute is an independent institute focused on energy systems, execution, and capability.

Our work spans battery energy storage, grid modernization, renewable and hybrid systems, executive and technical education, applied research, and industry engagement across international markets.

Independence is fundamental to how we work. Meridian is not organized around a manufacturer's technology or commercial agenda.

Our work begins with the decisions that matter, what needs to be understood, where judgment matters, where execution can break down, and how those realities differ across markets.

We bring together experienced practitioners, technical experts, and industry leaders with direct market knowledge to help organizations and professionals navigate those decisions.

As energy infrastructure becomes more complex, organizations need more than access to technology. They need the technical expertise, commercial understanding, professional judgment, and execution capability to make sophisticated energy systems work in practice. That is the capability The Meridian Institute exists to strengthen.
